Hilton and Lohan do perpetuate the craze for hotness amongst girls. But I would blame the media more than I would blame them. They wouldnt be perpetuating the craze if the media chose not to highlight them. The reason women feel the need to be sexually attractive is because the media gives them huge coverage making them look important, thus forcing girls to think they will only be important if they are hot.

It is not as if without these girls we wouldnt be feeling this way. Because the media would be doing its dirty work anyway.

One of my girlfriends has a son that is almost 15. Good looking kid, too. Went to a party at the beginning of this school year. Most kids were 14-15. He was interested in this particular girl - cute - and they flirted most of the night. Almost at the end of the party, the cute girl and a few of the other girls (desperately seeking attention) started making out with each other, groping, etc. When he told us about it, he didn't seem that interested. He had an attitude like "yeah, kinda pathetic". Wasn't interested in the cute girl anymore. Interesting how this 15 year old knew it was just a game that was being played.

Tyra had an episode about this. Lesbians were mad that girls would kiss other girls for the guys attention. Like it is a popluar thing to be a lesbian, but not really be one. I think Mtv perpetuated this by showing drunk girls kissing each other because a guy dared them too.

You guys posted so many amazing comments!

I guess with the whole media its a chicken and egg thing: they put girls in the tabs who sell the most mags, and the ppl who buy the mags are the general public. So is it the girls for dressing ho-ish, the paps for the pics, or the public for buying the crap. I guess sex sells and that will never change.

I guess subtle, interesting, smart, sensitive girls just don't sell papers.

thats why its nice to see girls like mandy moore and natalie portman being good role models.

It makes me disappointed in actresses like Scarlet Johanson who looks like a blow up doll in some of her magazine spreads and whatnot, when its clearly unneccesary for an actor of her caliber to have to do that.

These little chicks are idiots. When I was single and hanging out, if some guys dared me to kiss my friend I'd have told them "only after you kiss your (guy) friend!" And if he actually did it I might buy him a drink or something.

If girls were smart they'd do this, instead it's all "oooh they're looking at us! let's kiss!" And then freak out when an actual lesbian shows intrest. Newsflash chicks...guys already walk around with a boner half the time anyway. Hell, they wake up with one. You are not special because they get one watching you kiss.

Im worried we arent expanding our reasoning here. I would like to hear other perspectives.......maybe from girls who think they are only having fun because they want to, and not to ge attention from guys. Our discussion will make more sense when we have some argument from the other side.
