Why are you assuming I don't go to New Orleans? You know nothing about my life, my work, my business travel...
The blue stuff is my comment. I'll clean up the post so you understand it.
As for not knowing what I'm talking about --- I pulled the info from Make It Right's website. Got a problem with the information? Take it up with Make It Right. Your friend is wrong about the financial process. Once again, the information is in black and white on the website.
You spent 45 minutes on the site and couldn't find the info. I find it and post paragraphs and links... seriously, click your mouse and read it for yourself. Still have a problem with the info (because of reading comprehension or the material itself), take it up with the charity. I gave you the phone number.

I'm done with the quoting and pissing contest.
What I want to know is this: if the residents of New Orleans own their plot of land, and they sign on with Make It Right, they take out a loan for THE COST OF BUILDING A NEW HOUSE. Therefore, if it doesnt work out within a period of time and they must sell their house, it makes sense that they will repay the cost of building that house.
But it does NOT negate the fact that, at the outset of the deal, they owned that plot of land. And that is worth something and to my knowledge they are being stripped of that. And that is so wrong.
I know its technicalities, but when it comes down to disaster victims and they are seeking the value of the $60k plot of land that they owned before they rebuilt, thats a scandal.

It's called a mortgage. If the the charity purchased the land for them in addition to building the house, the mortagage would reflect the additional cost and would be higher.
However, the person is contributing the land, therefore less money is required to build the house because the capital cost of the land purchase is eliminated.
The more the homeowner can contribute the cost of rebuilding the house, (through insurance, savings, plot of land etc.), the smaller the morgage, and the less money the homeowner pays back when and if the house is sold.
Even if the house isn't sold, the loan has to be paid back at a monthly rate that is affordable to the homeowner and is not more than 30% of their income.
EXCEPT in the case where the homeowner is too poor to even make monthly payments. In that case, the charity will pay the mortgage. However, if they sell the house, they have to pay off the loan in its entirety from the proceeds of the sale.
What is different between a regular mortgage and one offered by the charity is that there are most likely penalities for selling the house early on because of the subsidization of the cost of building the house and the subsidization of the mortgage.
I didn't find this information on the webpage, but Habitat for Humanity does this
edit - okay - people who didn't own a house can also apply to have a Make It Right home too. Their mortgage will be higher because the cost of the land is in addition to cost of the house.

Toronto Girl you have been contacted privately. This is not the right attidude for a celebrity gossip board.
Nobody here is claiming to dispose of some Universal Truth. The thread itself started out as First Hand Celebrity RUMOURS.
People can chose to believe it or not believe it, or to read it or not read it al all. But as long as someone does enjoy reading it Calimoonchild is welcome to post whatever she likes and as much as she likes.

THanks guys!!! So, after this little incident, can we get a Mod to move this thread into a Members-only section as someone suggested earlier?

^ Yeah, that would be nice. Perhaps it will cut down on the crazies...
It's disturbing to see so many visitors on here enjoying the site when I pay each month to support it!

Toronto Girl is a member though. I think there are some different permission settings for some of the forums, but any celebrity gossip should go in this one, the more private forums are basically off-topic. I'll look into it though, I'm not sure how all the permission/access settings work (or if I can even see them, lol).
Cali, if you do want to retract any of your posts, you can use the reporting function to select which ones and ask us to delete them/edit them/remove some info from them if you like.

^ Hmmm... there goes that idea. There are just some crazies (members or not) that are NOT worth responding to no matter what they post and we all know who they are.

thanks for telling her how to do that, I've been trying to have a couple of my posts removed for a while but wasn't sure how to go about it. I actually reported 2 of my own posts today (from this thread) because I regretted a couple of things I said and all the guests on this forum have been making me a little nervous. I hope I did it right though, as I've never used the report feature before.....
oh and btw Cali, I always enjoy reading your gossip
