Edit: Reviewing it, I'm still not sure. Yes, they ask for proof that the individual owns the lot. But I am still not clear on if, by agreeing to be a part of Make It Right, they sign over their property rights. They no longer own the soil that houses the special green house that Make It Right built. I suspect this is the case. It is in line with what I was told: they may own the soil and land, but once they contract with Make It Right, if for whatever reason, they need to move, they get nothing. They've signed away their property.
I dont know the answer. Let me be clear, Toronto Girl, if you are so all-knowing and can inform us of this, please do.

Uh, just did. You could't find info on land ownership and I just posted it. Lots of info there.
None of it is fineprint and you didn't see it despite spending 45 minutes on the site.
As for your friend, ask him to supply you with the fine print that he claims is out in the open that proves this venture isn't what it purports to be.

The rest of your post, I'm ignoring, its personal attacks and you're being petty and pedantic. You're just looking to stir things up and I refuse to play along.

Seriously - make your friend give you the information to support his claims. This is a very serious accusation.

I know.
But back on-topic, I saw Reese Witherspoon running at Runyon Canyon and she's super tiny and super-motivated. She was charging it up that hill, ahead of everyone. And thats the end of my celeb rumors (slash sightings) at the moment.

They are providing gap funding for ownership.
"Key elements during this phase of counseling will
focus on proactive involvement in construction process/neighborhood planning, financial skills/management to
ensure sustainable homeownership, and preventative maintenance as a vehicle for reducing insurance and energy
costs." http://www.makeitrightnola.org/pdfs/counseling.pdf
http://www.makeitrightnola.org/pdfs/financing.pdf
the financing document has a lot of info too about the gap loan.
If the charity has a provision that the homeowner cannot sell the home, that is fairly standard clause in these circumstances. However, it is standard practice that there are clauses that outline the homeowner can sell provided they abide by the financial penalties such as having to reimburse the agency for the full cost of building the house & mortgage.
The goal is to get these people out of tents and into homes on their property again. Goal is not to provide a house mortgage for 30% of their income and have Joe Blow turn around and sell it at market value and make big bucks from it.
Here's the contact page for Make it Right
Make It Right 9
Contact them directly and ask what their terms are with regard to selling the house at a later date.
Better yet, call them at 1-888-647-6652.
here it is - your friend is full of shit.
MIR Deferred Payment Loan
– These loans have no monthly payments, and are used in place of other loans when borrowers required house payments have reached their affordable limit. Loan is repayable at the sale or
transfer of the MIR home.
http://www.makeitrightnola.org/pdfs/financing.pdf
The other loans operate as affordable mortgages.

Yeah I agree. But it seems unfair and cruel to leave individuals without ANYTHING from their investment. They contributed the cost of their plot of land and market value, and if they have life circumstances that require them to move soon, they lose it all? THat is not fair.
The bigger issue is what my friend reported: in the 9th ward, you have huge, beautiful full-restored houses next to flooded dumps. The majority of people have not returned to New Orleans: for every 3 revamped houses, there are another 20 that arent. There is no sense of community. A person could sign with this project and restore their home and find that they are the only one living on their street. The rest of the street is flooded, moldy debris.

Perhaps Cali should have posted it in Misc., but she didn't. Topic is over anyway since her source was proven wrong. edit - almost over.

Toronto Girl wrote: They have to repay the LOAN given to them - not give back the entire amount of the sale. Loan for 100k and teh house sells for 150K, they keep the remainder. Read the financial agreement - I posted the link earlier. Lots of info.

Did you not read what I just wrote? My source was THERE in New Orleans a few days ago. You are, to my knowledge, in Toronto. You haven't a CLUE what is going on in New Orleans. I laugh at your gall.
You totally butchered my quote, to the point where I can't make sense of what you are trying to say here (because what is in blue is NOT WHAT I SAID):
