Holy shit... The majority of my dna comes from handful of counties in England and Ireland including London.

So maybe I could be related to these assholes.

If so, they can keep the crowns and titles I'll just take money.

Oh, and a castle might be nice too. If they wanted to shut me up. Give me a castle (with people to keep it and me up) and I'll never bother anyone again, in fact. I'll be like Enya.

I think I read nearly every Briton that can trace back several generations will find a link to Edward III solely based on the large number of children he had and his children had several children (especially John of Gaunt), etc.
And let's not forget about the pseudo-specialists who will write to anyone for money that he is almost the dearest grandson of the Queen of Great Britain. But in fact, so many generations have passed, so many times the blood of different famous people has been passed on, that we simply cannot really guess who originates from whom. In any case, we all did not come out of thin air.

He might be. I'm getting him confused with the Blackadder dude (Tony Robinson) whose mission it is to prove that Edward IV wasn't really an heir to the throne and that it should have gone to his brother George or Richard who eventually obviously became king. It would def put a kink in the lineage if he had been illegitimate.

I think John of Gaunt and Edward III (grain of salt) came up in my tree.

Many/most Americans with any British heritage may very well descend from all those old dead kings and queens. If it is to be believed, I've got a slew of Scottish (I know...not the same) and British nobility and royalty in my line from a billion years ago. I think it's due to the plague - it wiped out the poors and made for more royal/noble descendants. And if it's to be believed, it's morbidly interesting to find how many of your ancestors had their heads lopped off or were poisoned.

Anyway, speaking of royalty, I just popped into mention that Prince Carl-Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden came down with the covids. I can't copy and paste, but I saw it a few places.

My two smarter-than-the-room coworkers told me Sweden was handling the pandemic better than anyone, but I guess maybe not so much? I mean, I told them that unlike in America (and implied by Americans, I meant them), Sweden actually is a bit more cautious and adult and responsible in general and aren't out to kill their fellow citizens for their RAAAHGHT to drink and hug in bars without masks, and that many Swedes live alone, and so on, but it's still a contagious illness. You can't out-polite it.

I love Tony Robinson and Time Team.

Interestingly about Edward IV, his paternal grandfather, Richard of Conisburgh, had rumors in his own lifetime about being illegitimate. Richard was second son of Edmund of Langley (son of Edward) and Isabella of Castile (daughter of King of Castile and Leon). He was a second son and inherited the title Duke of Cambridge after his brother died. Neither his father or his brother named him directly or left anything to him in their wills. His father also never settled lands on Richard while he lived. That often indicated that there was questionable parentage- that at least his father and brother did not acknowledge him as a blood heir.

It was widely believed that Isabella of Castile had an affair with John Holland beginning before the birth of Richard. If Richard of Conisburgh was indeed illegitimate, none of the 3 York sons would have had a claim to the throne by blood.

Coincidentally I was just reading about how the Dukes of Beaufort don't share Y-DNA with Richard III, even though they were supposedly from the same male line, and it points to Richard of Conisburgh as the possible non-paternal event.

Even so, the York sons were also descended from Richard of C's wife Anne, who was also in the line of succession, so they had a distant claim.

eta: Another conspiracy theory I can get on board with is that Edmund Tudor's father was actually Edmund Beaufort, not Owen Tudor, thus making the Tudors just like all those other old Plantagenets.

Yup, there's 2 breaks in the line- one before the York sons and somewhere between R3 and the present Duke. Arguably, the Yorks had the strongest claim to throne, they were descended on both sides from Edward III, and from the elder male line (2nd son- Lionel, Duke of Clarence). Lancaster was descended from the 3rd son (John of Gaunt)

    Then you have the Beauforts...

The Yorks' mother, Cecily, was a Neville. Her mother was a Beaufort (Joan) a daughter John of Gaunt and his then mistress turned wife Katherine Swynford. While the Beaufort children were legitimized by Parliament and the Papacy, Richard II excluded them from the line of succession.

Henry VII was from the Beaufort line via his mother, which is why he claimed the throne by right of conquest. His blood claim was excluded and by rights, after R3 the next in line *should* have been John de la Pole, Earl of Lincoln (son of R3's sister). He rose in rebellion against H7 in support of Lambert Simnel and died in battle. He left no children but brothers behind him. In true Tudor fashion, those 3 were always viewed with suspicion- one was executed by Henry VIII, the second died in battle and the 3rd after nearly 40 years in the Tower of London.

I could go on all day about the War of the Roses. I am completely fascinated- they basically wiped one another out leaving no one at all but boys descended from the female lines or females from male lines.

Sharon Osbourne revealed this week that she tested positive for COVID-19 — days after “The Talk” co-host Carrie Ann Inaba said she too had the virus.
In a Monday night Instagram post, the 68-year-old said she spent some time in the hospital with the illness, but is recovering, away from her husband, Ozzy Osbourne.
“I wanted to share I’ve tested positive for Covid 19,” she wrote. “After a brief hospitalization, I’m now recuperating at a location away from Ozzy (who has tested negative) while ‘The Talk’ is on scheduled hiatus. Everyone please stay safe and healthy.”
Inaba, who previously posted about her own diagnosis, was among those to wish Osbourne well.
“Love you so much my friend,” she wrote. “Sending you so much love…and praying for a full recovery.”
Inaba, 52, wrote Thursday that she was “home with some symptoms and will be sequestering as per the CDC guidelines, resting and taking care of myself.”
Inaba missed the regularly scheduled taping for “The Talk” last week, as did Osbourne, who was shooting from home “out of an abundance of caution,” according to co-host Sheryl Underwood.

Ellen DeGeneres, Sharon and Carrie all have/had the virus. These people never needed to leave the house for groceries or work. I want to know where they were to get it.

I bet they all have a lot of people working for them inside the house. And I also don't think that they really never left the house...
