I noticed this! Same goes for those Tampon and Viagra commericals with old people.

Yep, it's all true. Why wouldn't it be? It's am extremely common virus, not leprosy or something.

I think it is not the fact that celebs--or anyone else for that matter--have herpes but the fact that so many of them project an image of "I'm so above it all."

Truth be told, no one is ever so famous, rich, or powerful that he/she ceases to be vulnerable to the frailties of his/her human mind and body.

Life is but one continuous series of decisions, actions, and consequences leading to a fore drawn conclusion. The better choices tend to lead to the better outcomes; the other kind tend to lead, well, to the other kind.

Damn. That's morose.

Try again:

"Waiter? Yes; I'll start with the Weak Moment salad, with a glass of Raw Courage, then the Odds are in My Favor confit with the I'll Take My Chances demi glace, the verts d'Jealous Excess born of Insecurity, and I'll have the Regrets du Jour to go, please.

Just charge it to my account."

Yes. That is much better.

PARTY!

Oh yes, the viagra commercials. Bob the happy man. (or is that penis enlargement?)

Re: herpes and going down on you. As long as you aren't having an outbreak, this isn't an issue, or so I've been told. Am i wrong about that?

Hmm. . .

O.K., before I became an astronaut, and prior to my almost having become a psychologist, I was practically a nurse.

That said, let me put it this way.

HYPOTHETICALLY speaking:

If I know that I have the herps,
and you know that I have the herps,
and we both know that you absolutely do not have the herps. . . .

or

If you know that you have the herps,
and I know that you have the herps,
and we both know that I absolutely do not have the herps. . . .

The question becomes, arguably, not one of who has herpes but who wants to have herpes.

According to the experts:

Quote:
Avoid skin-to-skin contact, including oral, vaginal, and anal sex, during an outbreak. It's during the "active" phase that herpes is most contagious.

[Vi: Note the use of the phrase "most contagious." The implication being that contagious is contagious. STDs are not unlike pregnancy: you cannot be "a little pregnant," anymore (or less?) than you can be a "little contagious." Again, think of it as a loaded revolver: it is loaded regardless of whether you have six rounds or one in the cylinder. Think about it.]

Decide with your partner what's off-limits between outbreaks. You can still transmit the virus between outbreaks through "viral shedding," when small amounts of the virus come to the surface of the skin.
SOURCE: http://www.prevention.com/article/0,...3213-1,00.html

and . . .

Quote:
Initially, HSV-1 was found in 38 percent of women aged 20 or younger. During the follow-up period, analysis found that women who had vaginal intercourse had a more than six-fold higher risk of acquiring HSV-1 than sexually inactive women, or 6.8 versus 1.2 cases. For those who had only receptive oral sex without vaginal intercourse, however, the risk was even greater - 9.8 versus 1.2 cases.

Yikes.

So what’s a girl/guy to do? I say Latex. The more the better. Sure beats leather--so to speak--AND no animals need be harmed in any way.

Vi

(. . . and now, before we are sent to time-out for being off topic, we rejoin our discussion of the rashed and inflamous, already in progress.)

Count me in on the GR members that have herpes...caught it from a lying, cheating ex-boyfriend. He swore up and down that he didn't know he had it, which could be possible, but then again, he was a pathological liar. Who knows how many others he spread it to...but moving on...

Oh, I know how the "talk" goes when you meet someone new, fucking nervewracking...my last boyfriend was really cool about it actually, and sad enough ended up catching it from me (I have allergies w/latex, sucks...). I felt SO bad, but he wouldn't let me feel guilty. Thankfully though, we managed, he never held it against me because I was so up front with him about it. We actually had a really good sex life Sadly, we broke up...I hope he's responsible and is careful with whomever he's with now.

Anywho, that's my story...I've only been with 5 people in my life and I'm 29 years old. Thankfully, I only have a couple of breakouts a year and it only happens when I'm super stressed out....Valtrex gets the job done. I just hate the whole stigma of "oh, anyone with herpes is a dirty, filthy whore"--that's just not true! Well, in H-town, we all know that's a different story...but anyhow

Welcome to the "party" prnjcq7!! Good for you for insisting on having "the talk" before doing the deed. I have friends who do not tell one night stands. Not fair, even if it's safe sex!! Stay brave. Maybe we can have a voodoo party for our cheating exes together!!

Be of good cheer, Eva.

I am told by those in the know that it gets better when you get to the point that should you happen to cross paths with your ex and his/her "current significant," you overhear the voice(s) in your head say to the other(s),

"Tee, hee, hee . . . he/she is _____________ (insert verb of choice in its present participle form) my _____________ (insert noun for body part of choice--NOTE that I do not advise that you actually "insert body part of choice"; it is important that you not overlook the distinction) by proxy."

Or so they tell me.
