Has Rihanna lightened her skin or what!?
I've noticed Rihanna seems to be getting lighter and lighter. In some pictures she evn seems white. I honestly think shes has been using some type of lightening cream.
 2005 - normal skin tone
2006 -slightly lightened
2007 - ok, whats going on
2008 - definately lightening - she looks white!!!!

It looks like she's got a lot of makeup on which makes her look lighter.
Or maybe it's the glare of the flashbulbs reflecting off of her Hubble telescope-like forehead creating the optical illusion that she looks lighter.

In that last picture her feet look darker than her upper half. So maybe it's just make up. It's weird.

Lighting and make-up. Nothing dodgy.

I know nothing about afro-american skin, but doesn't it darken with sun exposure? Maybe she's just stayed out of the sun and out of the tropics where she grew up?

Yea, I'm thinking its lighting and makeup too. Nothing major.

Even with the seventy-head she's got going on, she looks gorgeous in the 2006 picture. Wish she hadn't decided to become all 'edgy' of late.

It could be that she's naturally lighter skinned and the pictures of her when she looks darker are from where she's been more exposed to sun. That, and makeup and lighting, could explain it. She's definately a long way from being in the Michael Jackson zone, anyway.

I'm guessing 1. SPF, 2. make-up and lightning, 3. black hair, which creates a contrast to her skin making her look paler, unlike the light brown hair she sported a few years back. I know that my skin can have a wide range of different shades depending on sun exposure, from blindingly pale to a fairly deep tan, I suppose the same goes for Rihanna and other people with darker skin tones too.

As others have already said, i'd be willing to bet anything that it's nothing more than the simple fact that she's just been staying out of the sun/wearing sunscreen. She IS from Barbados/was living there, until she got famous, so it's understandable she'd have darker skin from living in the tropics, and lighter skin when she is away from there. Dark skin tans in the sun, just like fair skin. Nothing more than that, IMO.

I don't think so- the reality of that is not easy- MJ is an obvious case, but she really has no reason to do this, she is successful the way she is-she has no motivation to put herself though that, so logic would suggest a big fat no on the skin lightening...

I'm white and my hubby is African and my daughter definitely can darken quite a bit, as she's in the sun a lot and depending on how good I am about putting sunblock on, so I can see that alone could make a difference, especially combined with lighting/makeup
