Gwyneth Paltrow's Feminine Hamptons Home
The summer home of Hollywood beauty queen Gwyneth Paltrow and her rocker hubby Chris Martin in Long Island's happening East End, which they purchased for $5.4 million in 2006, is featured in this month's House & Garden, and the word breathtaking doesn't begin to describe it. Paltrow, who took the digs' design into her own hands, chose a cool palette and clean lines, creating a space that is both functional for her family of four and illustrative of their individual styles. She stuck to muted tones throughout and used patterns sparingly, very much like her killer wardrobe.
Martin's rock-and-roll vibe and UK heritage is asserted with needlework art by Ann Carrington depicting the Crown Jewels, and a geometric-patterned wallpaper in the powder room and charcoal cabinets in the kitchen bring the noir rocker look to a more sophisticated level. Sadly, though, there is no yellow to be found. The couple's three year old daughter, Apple, even had a hand in the design; she chose the fabrics for her canopy bed. Paltrow also made the place kid-friendly with stepping stools throughout for Apple and her one-year old brother, Moses. It's understandable to be envious of this superstar family, but you don't have to be: the prices of their décor range from the remote Tord Boontje Blossom Chandelier ($22,500) to the very near CB2 appetizer plates ($2.50). Furthermore, if you ever find yourself in need of a design guide, ask Gwen, who said, "I've become an encyclopedia of design for my friends." Stay tuned for tips on how to get the Paltrow-Martin's look, and for an inside look at other images from their magnificent home,

I like some of the rooms like the gym area, big kitchen, garden, pool house and the canopy thingy but the rest of the rooms just look tacky, boring and un-lived in, it looks like a show home. There is no clutter in that house, not even a speck of dust in Apple's room.

Hate it. Soulless, bland, cold and prissy. Suits her.

I wasn't born yesterday, and have been working in the industry long enough to know that missy did not execute this herself. Good or bad, despite what the magazine said about "having a little help from the HG editor", she did not do it. I'm sure she had her hand in the selections of pretty pieces "oh I like THAT, can we make that work"?, but other than that, no way.
Too many custom pieces (I copied that white sofa with the bolsters in 1990), too many trade sources. Nope.

Okay, I kind of like the kitchen, but that's it. And it's not really gaudy. I was puking more at the fact that I hate my hovel. *sigh*

Looks museum-y. I like a more homey feel.

I don't know how she does the white carpeting with two little kiddies. That's sort of beyond my comprehension.

^^^ in the same industry - and I agree she did not do this herself.
I used to work for another firm and at the time we did the home of a rather well know "lifestyle expert" and she reported and advertised that she did it all herself.

Apart from the hideous pink bed (and who puts a bed made for 2 against a wall?) there is an almost total absence of COLOUR in the place. I have some (very amateur) experience with interior design and I agree that she probably said "I like pastels" and left the rest to a professional.
