Cynthia Nixon - WHY?

Can someone here explain the appeal of Cynthia Nixon from Sex in the City? I find her dowdy and matronly, and they cast her amongst all these hot women, and try to convince us she's a hot catch? I thought she was WAY older as well, but i heard she's the youngest?

i dont think she was ever meant to be one of the hot ones on SATC. She was more of the "everywoman" on the show. Very average in the looks department. But she was by far the best actress on the show.

yeah she was by far the least pretty on sex and the city, but i personally like her looks. to be fair, she looks better on film than in pics, i've noticed she doesn't photograph well. definitely the everywoman, but her character was awesome.

I agree, she isn't gorgeous. However, for those who regularly watched SATC, she did get more attractive/stylish as the show progressed. When I go back and watch old episodes I notice it even more!

*Edited b/c upon rereading my post hours later I saw I put that she IS gorgeous instead of isn't. I briefly skimmed and thought, "who the hell would post that" then panicked and rushed to edit when I saw it was me!

She's not "pretty", but she was never meant to be pretty on SATC. Hell, Sarah Jessica Parker wasn't pretty, either. It was about their personalities, spunk, style, etc. The only really "pretty" one was Charlotte.

She looked good sometimes, when they fixed her up, especially in later episodes.

I just started watching SATC a few months ago, on dvd. I don't have HBO. I've watched 3 seasons in a few months. Still, to me, she will always be the long-haired hippie girl from the movie Little Darlings, where Kristi McNichol & Tatum O'Neal had a contest on who could lose their virginity first. Cynthia Nixon gave one or both of them (?) ginseng, telling them it was an aphrodisiac. Have no idea why I've always remembered that.

Looking back, that movie is rather alarming. It's pretty bad, even by today's standards. The girls were only 15.

Lobelia I was going to comment on that movie also. I just remember thinking when I saw that movie and her character she was just weird. I dont know why but I also thought maybe she liked the Kristie McNichol character. MMMMM

I admit that the most striking and photogenic girl was Kristin Davis,
followed by Kim Cattrall. SJP is nothing special in the looks department
and was an annoying presence.

Cynthia always struck me as having a capacity for warmth
that even Julia Roberts doesn't have. (That's not a joke.)
I remember her from The Manhattan Project where she played
the hero's girlfriend and I thought she was very cute and
approachable.

U all have a point, i realised that when you arent watching a series, you seem to be disconnected from the characters - therefore only see their looks. I know people can see through her dowdy looks and like her for her spunkyness. I just thought she seemed older looking.
