Joan & Melissa Replaced By "Dancing" Fembot
Posted Apr 18th 2007 2:53PM by TMZ Staff
Filed under: TV, Fashion Police, Awards/Awards Shows
The TV Guide Channel has replaced veteran red carpet fashion mavens Joan & Melissa Rivers with Lisa Rinna! Who will you be wearing?
Rinna has signed a multi-year contract with the network, which will see the former "Dancing with the Stars" booty shaker hosting five red carpet pre-shows and five fashion recap shows, beginning with the Emmy Awards in September. TV Guide says they chose Rinna because, "In addition to being an established TV star, she also has fashion expertise as both a business person and commentator, so she is a great fit for this role and for our brand." Lisa owns two L.A. area boutiques called Belle Gray.
The network released a statement saying, "TV Guide Channel is very appreciative of Joan and Melissa Rivers' contributions to the success of our Red Carpet programming over the past three years. We wish them the best in their future endeavors." Snap!
While it is not known where the mother/daughter team will end up next, Joan Rivers, through a rep, told TMZ, "I will tell you my true feelings and experiences, as soon as we finalize our new deal." Can we talk?!
Joan, who invented red carpet fashion reporting as we know it, and daughter Melissa had been with TV Guide since January 2005, after leaving E!

Obviously viewer response (actually reaction ) prompted this change. And perhaps corporate sponsorship? It seems like Joan Rivers has toned down her style in recent months. At any rate, she'll land on her feet.

E should have done whatever was necessary to keep Joan on the red carper. Star Jones was a horrible replacement and Ryan Secreast was just as bad. They need to get down on their knees and beg Joan to come back.
Lisa Rinna - well all I can say is that I hope her over inflated lips don't cause starts to trip on the red carpet. She comes across to me as someone who is very fake and if we remove her clothing we would most likely find all the stitch marks from where they rebuilt her.

She's VERY funny! I've not seen Lisa Rinna so can't really comment on her. These changes happen don't they, sometimes sucessfully & sometimes not....

I like Lisa Rinna, and think she may well do a fine job. Who knows. And maybe Joan is on her way back to E.

Joan rocks the red carpet! DUMB move E! and TV Channel! She originated the whole thing!
She'll be ok, and so will Melissa...
Though, if anyone was almost as good as Joan, it was Kathy Griffin...

^That's true. I'd love to see them do it together. Aren't they really good friends?

^^Joan & Kathy?? Not sure, but it seems like they would get along well! They have the same kind of humor and perhaps share plastic surgeons!
They would be great together--good thinking Sweetpea!

^I thought I saw Joan on Kathy's show having dinner with her, but I could be mistaken. Yeah, they both seem to be addicted to it.

The last few times I saw Joan on the red carpet she was sort of an embarrassment. She got names wrong and info wrong and just asked some really awkward questions.

Joan seems almost as f*cked up as Paula Abdul.

I always found it ironic that two of the most unattractive and unglamourous women in the business would always be asked to host anything remotely in line with beauty and fashion.

ITA. Gah, but Melissa is an ugly woman. Her mother is unregonizable with all her work done. I loathed her and her stupid jokes. As well as getting the names wrong and not being current on celebrity things. She needs to retire.
Kathy is the only one I liked. She wasn't an ass kisser like Star and Seacrest. I think Lisa Rinna will be a horrible ass kisser. She's D-List, so she'll fawn all over the A-Listers. But maybe not. I'm not sure about having to watch her hemorroid lips though.
