Default Princess Diana's memorial site in Paris, France

I had no idea they did this. It's at the Pont de L'Alma, the site of the crash.

Unbelievable that it'll be 10 years this August. I so remember that day, and the first reports of her being injured. Broken arm, then seriously injured, then the news was that she had a head injury. We were also in Europe, then, and I remember that before we went to sleep, I said that, if it were a serious head injury which would render her incapacitated, she'd be better off dead because it would be nothing for her as a young, active woman, to live as a vegetable.
Of course, the next morning we woke up to the news that indeed she'd died.

i have a LOT of the Princess Diana books (and collectibles) but i think by far, the best book about her death was called 'the day diana died'. gives a lot of details and insight.

That flame thing was there a long time before the crash. It commemorates something entirely different (can't remember what) but was quickly 'adopted' as a shrine to St Diana because of its convenient location at the entrance to the tunnel where the accident happened.

"La Flamme de la Liberte, a scale replica of the flame of the Statue of Liberty in New York (work by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi), is a symbol of the French-American friendship. After the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales (1997), it was transformed into an original memorial. "

Thanks AO. You is smart!

I ve passed through that tunnel, and i still cant get how the driver crashed the car there.
Even drunk or stoned,it is hard for me to buy he went from all the horible traffic to crush in a passage.
Tunnel,yes but nothing dangerous,just a passage.
And i also think that flame statue was there before.
I might check with french relatives and find out..

How much things have changed! It's difficult sometimes to think that the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France due to the shared values of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, post-revolution. What went wrong?

Diana's death/murder is one conspiracy theory I'm willing to buy into. Of course we will NEVER know the truth but there are way too many strange or inexplicable events surrounding the whole sorry saga.
