Celebrity heights! (I'm sure you've always wanted to know)
http://www.celebheights.com/
omg a fantastic site! Its so funny b/c they give the answer and a brief description then there's like thousands of comments posted below like these ppl obsess about it or something and then there's pics as proof! its a perfect site for someone like me b/c I know celebs lie about their heights just like they do about thier age and weight and everything else (like they're all inaccurate on imdb.com)
shocking example:
Quote:
Martin Sheen's height is 5 ft 6 in (168 cm)
Years ago, West Wing actor Sheen used to get listed as being 5ft 8. In reality he is about 2 inches shorter. Height Informant, Mr R, who has worked with Sheen on occasion informed me he really is 5ft 6 up close. Emelio Estevez got the short sheen gene and also stands about 5ft 5, not 5ft 7 as some would think...

I don't believe this one
Quote:
Tom Cruise's height is 5 ft 7.75 in (172 cm)
US Actor from Mission Impossible and Top Gun. The Biggest star in Hollywood has had terrible flak in the press for being 'short'. His height is regularly listed as being either 5ft 7 or 5ft 9. Ex-wife Nicole remarked in 2001, 'Now I can wear heels again'. She also said she was a couple of inches taller than him.
I heard a quote from Scottish comedian Billy Connolly, who remarked that Tom wasn't short...that he 'Tom was at least 5ft 10'. He's now integrated his remarks about Tom into his act: "Smashing guy. Everybody thinks he's a small guy. He's not. I think they would like him to be wee. I think they're jealous bastards."
There's a great picture of Tom beside a 185cm baseball player and it's hard to see Cruise taller than 5ft 7 in it (but unfortunately we can't see their feet in it so the baseballer might be on a verge and tom couple inches below). However, sometimes you find photos where the shoes can clearly be seen and then you realise Tom may actually be nearer 5ft 8!

5ft 8 Glenn beside Tom (leaning slightly in first shot).

I think Tom is shorter than 5'7 and I think he's been shrinking.

^ he wears heels; he's such a monster i swear! he's like the biggest phony in Hollywood.
more shock:
Quote:
Sylvester Stallone's height is 5 ft 9 in (175 cm)
US Actor from Rocky and Rambo. In a 1991 interview with Longevity magazine he says: "I'm 5'10" and in 1993 NY Times said "I'm exactly 5 feet 10 1/2 inches"
Cinema.com on meeting him, "Sly, shorter than you expect at 5-foot-eight" and pre-www, in 1990 Chicago Times was even bringing up the subject of footwear, "The real-life Rambo is an official 5 foot 10 1/2 inches tall, but that is with the generous boost of what can only be described as elevator shoes". Indeed, a specialist shoemaker once commented that "I made him 4.5 inches taller for 16 years!", although this is an exaggeration..
Another interesting quote is from famous screenwriter Goldman's book about lies stars tell. He says "I had a hot lead that Sly was 67 inches." going on to revealing his source was someone who was also that height and jogged with Sly one morning. He then describes how he went into a swimming pool that Sly was in...and about 10 minutes later, "He (sly) got out, grabbed a towel. I got out, grabbed a towel. He stood. I stood. Sixty-seven inches. Dripping wet.".
Another quote comes from Supermodel Janice Dickenson's book 'Everything about me is fake' whom she recalls Sly tried picking her up (they were a couple for a while): "Who was this guy to go dissing me while he's standing there in his custom-made elevator shoes."
Elevator shoes have apparently helped him (he can appear close to 6ft in some photos), i.e. Sly with military posture beside Denzel. Nobody in Hollywood has better posture than Sly, but if you see the girth of his Sneakers then you may wonder.

Do stars really wear shoe lifts? Aren't they satisfied with their god given height? Well, I dug up an old quote from the crooner Bobby Darin who reveals what many of us know - shoe lifts have been around since the dawn of hollywood:
"I went out and had these special shoes made. It's nothing new, I don't know if you know, John Wayne is 6'4 and wears 3-4 inch lifts in his shoes. I don't know who he wants to be bigger than, but he does and it's an old, old custom, I certainly did not invent it. In my case, it was more neccesary than it was for Duke Wayne. I had these shoes made and 2 to 3 inch lifts inside and the heel was another 2 and half inches or so and I walked around that way, wherever I could without falling over"
Robert Mitchum corroborates the fact for some reason Wayne wore lifts to make his already large 6ft 4 size appear giantlike. In the book Hollywood Wit, Mitchum is quoted as saying: "Wayne had four-inch lifts in his shoes. He had the overheads on his boat accommodated to fit him. He had a special roof put in his station wagon...The son of a bitch, they probably buried him in his goddamn lifts.". One of those myths. Even a short article quoted on WENN entertainment network commented upon Russell Crowe and his alleged elevator shoes, "He wears special shoes to make him look taller. Russell had women falling all over him at a party in producer Jerry Bruckheimer's back yard - until he took his shoes off (and) suddenly lost several inches in height - because (he) had lifts in them. Partygoers say Bruckenheimer nudged Crowe, telling him, "Put your shoes back on, you're blowing your image."
An article from Copley News also reveals that an Italian shoemaker has a few secrets about stars and their heights. Regarding Sylvester Stallone he says: "I made him 4.5 inches taller for 16 years!" and he drops names like Dolly Parton, Douglas, DeNiro and that "I give you one more -- I made William Shatner 3 inches taller in the show."
Nowadays, elevator shoes are used by many celebrities. But you won't find many admitting it, if any. There was even one company who makes lifts (ShoeLift.com) that was quoted on their site as saying: "At our current location in the States we've had numerous security breaches. We have had several American media representatives trying to hack into our clients database and even intercepting orders." With standard 1 inch shoe lifts, they can fit in normal shoes, but stars have lots of money so can even get them designed in such a way that it is hard to tell an elevator shoe from a normal shoe unless you can see the whole shoe, which is usually covered by trouser. So judging heights is still going to be tricky for those few stars that choose to wear them most of the time, others simply won't care.
Screenwriter William Goldman, in his Adventures in Screen Trade book: Which Lie Did I Tell, comments that "Movie stars are short...You see, stars have lifts in their boots....They have lifts in their shoes, their loafers, their slippers. I know one who has lifts in their socks. But noone has figured out a way to put lifts in their feet (yet)"
Similarly, when a star mentions their height, do we really know if they are telling the truth? Thankfully some hollywood stars couldn't give a toss about their height and will happilly divulge the information in interviews. Others tip-toe around the answer, whilst some may even lie about their stature. Also consider that many stars will have been measured when they're 20 or so, a small percentage possibly in their shoes and you can bet any that are, for instance 5ft 6.5 would round that to 5ft 7. Like a publicist who will round down a ladies weight, I think many would be tempted to round up an inch or so for shorter stars...

There are all kinds of tricks. Before CGI, a common thing to do for outdoor shots was to dig a trench and have the female actor stand in it so that it appeared the male actor towered above her. I've met and interviewed a lot of actors and most of the men are short -- under 5' 10" with a few exceptions. Clint Eastwood is one of the few really tall actors. I once stood in an elevator next to Tom Cruise and I am 5' 31/2". I was wearing flats and he was at MOST 2-3 inches taller than me. He is tiny, but not as tiny as Dustin Hoffman.
The women in Hollywood tend to be taller than the men, although there are exceptions. FYI, nearly all actresses (and some actors) have bad skin.

So even actresses who seemingly have flawless skin actually have bad skin, eh. Imagine the ones that we know have bad skin, they must be worse in person!

How tall is Jessica Simpson? I saw a picture of her with Carmen Electra and she made Carmen look positively TINY! She had big, meaty man-hands and her head was enormous next to Carmen.
Honestly, I was convinced that Jessica was really a boy who had been raised as a girl. This was back when she was flaunting her "Daisy Duke" body all over the place, and I felt bad for guys who were drooling over her, tee-hee!

yeah well Carmen Electra is no joke 5'0'' maybe b/c i saw a pic of her with seth green who's tiny himself (i've seen him in person and he's about 5'2'' maybe) and she was wearing heels and still shorter than him! so yeah Carmen is extremely small and Jessica Simpson is around 5'2''/ 5'3'' but no bigger.
interesting fact (and I never knew Jean Harlow was so short b/c she always looks so long and lean in photographs and check out her tiny shoe size !):
Quote:
Jean Harlow's height is 5 ft 2 in (157 cm)
US Actress. According to her official site she was 5ft 2 and around 109lbs.
Viv says on 1/Apr/06
Yes, Jean was about 5'2". I've heard anything from 5'1 3/4"-5'2 1/2" for her. Rosalind Russell gave a great quote on her first meeting with Jean: "I remember sitting under a hair dryer," wrote Russell, "and sitting next to me was a child, also under a dryer. She was wearing shorts, and her little baby legs, perfectly formed, rested against the back of her chair while the nails of her little baby hands were being manicured. My word, I thought, a ten- or eleven-year-old having that bright red polish put on, and suddenly the hood of the dryer went back and the child stood up and it was Jean. She was probably twenty-three at the time, but without any makeup and no eyebrows, she looked exactly like a little kid."
Cliff says on 31/Mar/06
This is about right for her. She had very small feet (size 3-1/2) to top it off. Btw, It appears my first post here (The one S. is replying to) was mistakenly erased?
S says on 17/Mar/06
Ginger Rogers was 5'4.5" and she was in her first film in 1929 so they weren't all short!

Paris Hilton is usually listed between 5' 8" and 5' 9"...she is no more than 5'7". I am a bit over 5'9" and towered over her.

Tom Cruise is not 5'7". He's about 5'4". A friend of mine who knows Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen claims that Mary-Kate is under 5'0" and Ashley is right at 5'0". I think all of the celebrities add between one to three inches. Toby Keith is REALLY tall and really fit in person. I was surprised because from his videos I got the impression that he might be out of shape.

True, bit it's even more ridiculous that (wannabe) he-man like Stallone, Cruise and even Pitt resort to wearing "special" shoes. These days Pitt is the same height as his Se7en co-star, the 6'3" Morgan Freeman! If you've seen the movie, you KNOW that's impossible!
