physically exact copies of their parents.
The youngest niece (the blonde) married a red haired, green eyed guy (with
a blue eyed dad and brown eyed mom). Two of their girls have different
shades of blue eyes and one has green eyes.....
Genetics, go figure.

My major was genetics so to clarify...
Eye color is not a trait that is "recessive"nor "dominant"... it is determined by several factors and can be cumlative as is hair color, height and skin color-- it is more complicated than that but bascially. Taking into consideration that your eye color is determined by what chromosome each parent gave to create you. now those two chromosomes can make a new color or give you whatever your parents gave you.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let this be the end of this debate.

The only true variations are blue or brown, everything else is an inbetween. There's no allele combination for green, hazel, grey, etc. Even having two parents with green eyes does not guarantee your children will have blue eyes, you're just as likely to have a green eyed child as two blue eyed parents, two brown eyed parents, etc.

And there's no dominant/recessive stuff going on here...Faker is right

All babies start off with blue eyes and as they age melanin deposits in the iris, so it's kinda random chance.

Note: this is old research and new research indicates that there are actually 3 or possibly 4 loci (green being one of them). It's not a field of study that's particularly necessary

All I know is my ex and I both have brown eyes (his are almost black, mine medium brown) and our son's eyes were as light blue as the sky until he was 3, then they turned and stayed a gorgeous shade of green.

LOL i was wondering when a thread like this was gonna happen!! Being a nerd i actually googled Katie Holmes Eye Colour and came up with several sites all stating her eye colour as something different. She has hazel, brown, blue and green eyes according to all of these sites. So take your pick as to which one you want to believe... meh i think i'll wait for Suri to get older because i think her facial features might be a little easier to analyse then eye colour.
