How does Perez Hilton make money?

Just out of curiosity...how does Perez make his money to travel and hobnob with the stars. Does he make that much from the advertising on his blog?

He makes his income from selling ad space on his blog and then is invited to parties as a 'personality'. The party promoters pay for him to attend the party, likely airfare, then his outfit and other things are donated/sponsored.

So Perez gets the stuff for free so long as he says something like, "Here's me at the amazing T-Mobile party, thanks to Ben Sherman for the clothes and Gucci for the awesome sunglasses."

I'm going to be watching this lawsuit for its new caselaw potential. A certain outcome could really affect a lot of what goes on, on the internet.

I hate Perez, but i hope he doesn't get busted because that would mean tougher laws on all blogs, forums, etc.

I've been watching his site to see if he starts crediting photos, but he can't really do that because that would be equal to admitting his guilt. So he's taking his chances. I don't go there much. It's kinda skanky, though has gotten a little better (actually probably goes in and out in terms of taste).

Yeah I'm kind of torn on which way I want it to go.

The stupid thing is, he could have avoided all of this very easily. They're not even against him using the photos, as long as he credits them ...

Stat-data counts number of hits (clicks) on blog.
He takes that data to advertisers and they pay to have their ads on his page.

The more hits, the bigger the sums you pay for an ad.
He started with free ads, then $100 per small add, then was $250, then $400.I dunno where is the sum at now.
Also, after becoming a hit blog, he started getting invites to radio shows and even tv shows...first for free but he advertised his blog, then he got paid.If he does his own reality show(supposedly starting next year) he will be paid for starring there,too).

He states he is only using the photos (taken from X17) to reinforce the articles. And he used to credit them but stopped when X17 owners complained he isn't crediting enough -instead of saying source X17, they wanted thanks or something more.

I'm not against X17 ( I think Perez is childlish or downright nasty sometimes) but, if they go on with the trial, law infringements for photo-using blogs could be drastic.
