If our j-school professor has anything to say about this, the California Supreme Court has just
rewritten the rules of libel law. In a decision handed down Monday, the court ruled that blogs (that's us!) cannot be held liable for defamatory comments written by others — only the people who actually wrote those comments can be sued. Supposedly this brings California law in line with other states who've made similar rulings, but we've always been told that reprinting defamatory comments is just as egregious as being the one who came up with those comments. Who knew our grasp of legal code was so far off?
So we're counting on you, our fine readers, to make our Britney, Paris, Lindsay, and Nicole posts some of the most libelous items in the days and weeks to come. Exercise your First Amendment. It fights terrorism.
