Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes chat - why be a beard?

I was wondering last night: Why would Katie go along with their relationship if it were truly a sham? Why does Kelly Preston pretend (if those rumors are true) - is it all b/c of money??

How do you think it started?

Why, if someone were gay, would they go to so much trouble to hide their life? Wouldn't their life be 10 times easier if they just lived the truth?

I tend to believe they are aren't what they appear to be (lol) but it's so crazy, why would they do it? Does scientology discriminate against gay people? I don't know..

I can't see Katie thinking this is for real. I highly doubt TomThumb has *ever* been sexual with her and the whole relationship/pregnancy/asian baby thing has been weird and off-kilter from the get-go. Plus ... she was interviewed/selected for the 'role' of girlfriend, wasn't she? I think this whole debacle is a contract job and she is being paid big-time for going along with it.

^^ Agreed. I don't know. Maybe she romanticized it a bit. Maybe she assumed it would blossom into something more. I'll bet the brain washing started really early on, which probably helped keep her around (well, that an an ironclad contract).

She does seem to be happy lately though...not quite as zombie like. Ironically, he seems like a trapped unhappy man as of late. There was barely a smile to be had in any of those wedding pictures. In fact, he looks scared sh*tless. I'm guessing he's wising up to the Co$ and is trying to find a way out. I really do think that'll happen at some point.

I think money and living the high life has alot to do with it. I also think beards are good friends of the gay man, and do them the favour. I know I would do it especially if it was a friend, or if I had a crush on that celebrity. Katie Holmes said she has forever liked Tom Cruise. Think about it; if your favourite celebrity who you had the hots for asked you to live with them, and accompany them to red carpet events, and kiss them publicly and such as well as get paid to be with the gorgeous star, would you do it? And as for Tom cruise; he AUDITIONED other stars and ended up with Katie who oddly looks alot like him, and thats always kind of disturbed me. I think katie is 100% aware of what shes doing, its all for money, but like i already said, you get to be with that guy, and its probably very glamorous as well.

And I think alot of closet cases might want to come out, but although we say, it wouldn't make a difference, in some cases it might, I'll use Robbie Williams as an example; he said he was gay, and yes he did say that, and his ticket sales dropped. Then he came out with, 'I'm bisexual'. Now he's apparently straight as a ruler again. and for some reason, publicists shit themselves when gay rumours come about, particularly when they're true! I dont think a man NEEDS to publicly come out. If they're gay, they still have their life, but getting married and being seen with the wife is a good cover. Some of them probably dont want the attention that comes with being 'out of the closet'.

We know that Cruise auditioned several actresses for this role before settling on Holmes. This column reported a story about Jennifer Garner. There have been published stories about Kate Bosworth, Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Alba being approached.

A newer one involves Scarlett Johansson, who ran for her life when presented with a fait accompli dinner at the Scientology Celebrity Centre in Hollywood.

yea there was a gossip article(s) that said ScarJo and Jessica Alba were asked to meet Tom Cruise, both declined if I remember correctly. Maybe it's still in our gossip archive.

I think Katie probably thought it may be real at first. But after all the media speculation and questioning, how can she not suspect that he might be gay? She's either completely brainwashed and in love, or she's under contract with Tom.

Kate was interviewed for the job, she's getting paid for the job. I don't think she has any hopes that Tom is going to fall in love with her.

Not many people knew her name before she appreared on Tom's side. She did it for the money and for the publicity. Which is fine by me, only bringing a child into this is scandalous.

I don't understand why she needs the publicity now - she's quit working completely and I'm sure she is just considered a fool for going along with this. I find it very hard to believe that anyone in show business is actually falling for this sham.
