Catherine Zeta Jones: convenient Welsh accent?
Here's a video listed by the British Monarchy twitter feed/FB page. It's an interview of CZJ after getting a CBE (Companion of the British Empire). What struck me is I have never, ever heard her speak with a Welsh accent until this video. I always thought she lost it but no, it's there in hiding!
Guess she trots it out when it's convenient.

My mother gets a southern drawl after talking to HER mother for an hour. I agree that it probably isn't on purpose.

I can only think of her WITH her Welsh accent! I've not really heard her talk for years.
She took part in a celebrity Ryder Cup event a few years ago and was hilarious. She could only keep the fake accent going for about twenty minutes and spent the day struggling to be Catherine Zeta Jones from Hollywood and not Cathy Jones from Mumbles.
She was partnered with Chris Evans who, as Catherine was getting ready to take a shot, shouted to the crowd:
"It's alright, she's just been for a pee, she'll play better now."
She cracked up and took about an hour to regain her celebrity composure.
I don't have a strong accent, but I do have the shortened vowels of a northern; but after I'd been living in the US for less than a year I'd lost a lot of my English accent. My room-mate heard me talking on the phone to a college friend & couldn't understand a word I said; apparently my accent got a lot stronger too.Originally Posted by Mel1973

I remember watching Michael Douglas on Letterman about six years back, and he was asked about Catherine and just said she was a typical British person. Whether he was ignorant, or dumbing down, who knows. But it has been a long time since CZJ left Wales.

Everybody reverts to the their native accent when in their home country or speaking to a fellow countrymen/woman.
Do the same think myself.
I guess I just thought it was funny that she never had a hint of an accent in any interview I've seen in North America.
My accent used to wander all over the place at one time. I had my own home town accent that progressively became more like the accent that was prevalent in the area the office I worked at was based in and then took yet another detour when I spent every weekend with my long-distance BF in another part of the country.

When I was living in New Zealand, I got this TERRIBLE accent when I was talking to someone with thick New Zild leanings. Its like my voice was trying to adjust and instead just wanted me to sound incredibly stupid. It DEFINITELY wasn't on purpose
