He can't act. He just plays Kevin Costner. I only think he had a career because he lucked out and got in some good films.
I recently watched Field of Dreams and thought about what a good actor and how nice looking Kevin Costner was and still is. Why do you all think his career tanked the way it did? Sure he had some flops (Waterworld anyone?) but so do many other top stars. I really enjoyed many of his films and just wonder what went wrong.

I feel the same way about Clooney, Twitchy.
Kevin Costner was cute for about five minutes when he was 24. I will forever call that movie - Dances I Ripped Off Jeremiah Johnson With Wolves.
Monotone speech pattern, no screen presence, way too rich and another one that traded in the old wife. He just shouldn't have the name he has in that business.

He was great and I loved him in Bull Durham so I always had a soft spot for him because of that. That is, until I saw his interview on Inside the Actors Studio a few years ago. I was appalled. He is incredibly vacuous, boring, and narcissistic. He has nothing interesting to say at all, and no truly insighful knowledge of the craft of acting. He's a pretty boy who lucked out.
eta: I found the videos of ITAS all in one place--if you can stomach them.
More Than A Kevin Costner Fan...: Kevin Costner on Inside The Actors Studio……
Don't fear the reefer..
Costner's career tanked because of a combination of bad movies, personal scandals and he burned one too many bridges.
I loved Bull Durham, but not just because of him......though I did like him in it. He was sexy ...damn.
He's just gotten so full of himself, since the Dance's With Wolves shit, and an Oscar. I mean, he likens himself a singer too, come on.
Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, No Way Out, JFK, Tin Cup.....perhaps I have bad taste in movies, but I have enjoyed his work. I have noticed that when interviewed he has absolutely no charisma and seemed quite grouchy. But then look at someone like Tom Cruise, he's a somewhat better actor but is totally strange and he's still going strong.
