Thanks for the pics, HWBL. Bette Davis' appearance changed remarkably from when she was in her 30's to her 40's. The same with James Stewart.
How cruel time can be, changing us from strong, healthy and sometimes even beautiful
creatues into old, wrinkly, crooked, shriveled up versions of ourselves. Of course
there are two worse alternatives: death or (botched) PS interfering with the natural
aging process...... This is not a thread on who aged the worst. It's to see how
people's looks changed as years advanced.

Rock the fuck on!
Yeah thanks. I'm a big Jimmy Stewart fan.
Very interesting thread, HWBL! Thanks for posting it.
I noticed that as well, and I had to go back and check the ages to make sure I was reading right. Now women in their 40s look so youthful, and it's jarring to see that much age on Bette for that age. I think most of it is the use of sunscreen and less smoking now than in years past. I don't know many regular women who've had nips or tucks or Botox, but most will slap on sunscreen and try to take care of their skin.
No amount of ps changes the fact that time is cruel, effing cruel.
Bette Davis seemed to change overnight when she had a baby. Not for the better.
Two iconic stars who didn't get to live very long lives:
Judy Garland (June 10, 1922 - June 22, 1969)
1927, age 5
1936, age 14
1940, age 18
Dec. 1944, age 22
Aug. 1946, age 24 with Liza
1956, age 34
July 1967, age 45, two years before her death, ravaged by years of alcohol & pill abuse.
Clark Gable (Feb. 1, 1901 - Nov. 16, 1960)
1902, baby Clark at 18 months
1917, age 16
1925, age 24 before he got his teeth fixed
1928, age 27
1933, age 32
1934, age 33: new teeth, new moustache
1938, age 37
1946, age 45
1954, age 53
1957, age 56
1960, his 59th birthday, 8 months before his death. His son was
born March 1961, 5 months after he passed.

It's sad what happened to Judy...all those years of drug addiction certainly took its toll on her looks.
Clark Gable became better looking as he aged. I didn't realize how large Clark Gable's ears were.
Rock the fuck on!
Gable aged really well, imho. And I had no idea Jimmy Stewart wore a toupee! That was some quality hairpiece.
It's interesting how Bette's eyes were always so remarkable. Even as the rest of her face changed, those eyes stayed much the same.

Great thread. Errol flynn is a fantastic example of this. Went from drop dead gorgeous to bloated and boozed out

I blame lack of knowledge on what cigarettes, alcohol and sun can do to your health for alot if the aging process though.
Poor Judy Garland. Addiction certainly got its teeth in her and marked her face before it was all said and done.
Think I'll pass on this aging malarky![]()
