Her freckles were airbrushed out. I don't find her particularly pretty. However, she looks good there.

I must say, though, for an Asian standard of beauty, she wouldn't be considered pretty.

I'm sorry, but why oh why do people seem obsessed with pointing this out all the time? Just about every Lucy Liu thread will contain this comment in it somewhere. There are many different types of beauty in the world - there is certainly no one "european" standard. Do Asians not value anything outside an established norm or something? Is there a jealousy factor at work because an atypical Asian woman is getting more work and press than more typical ones?

I've also heard the same sentiment expressed to the opposite end - apparently, Xiang Xiyi fits the Asian standard of beauty, but she's then considered too "common" to be truly beautiful. I don't get it. They're both pretty. Lots of women of all ethnicities are pretty. Why does the beauty of Asian women always seem to be less celebrated by other Asian women?

I'm not trying to be flip, but I've honestly always wondered about this. I really do see these comments everywhere.

Standard or not, I think she has a fierce beauty that makes her very attractive.
    Nope.

I think her beauty is unique,im so tired of the typical euro-looking asian-beauty.

I've wondered the same thing myself with the comments.

You're in Korea, correct? Well, as you probably know one of the standards for Korean beauty is the double lids. And it's highly likely the ones with double lids achieved it through surgery. However, there are some who have it naturally. My point is, if you place Lucy Liu next to, say, Filipina actress, Heart Evangelista, can you truthfully say Lucy Liu's prettier?

    Heart Evangelista

I agree with you to a certain extent. However, for quite some time, the blue-eyed blonde was the fairly standard image of beauty. Now, what defined typical European beauty is changing. Thank goodness.

Put it this way. From an Asian perspective, my perspective, I feel I know pretty when I see it. And honestly, I don't perceive Lucy Liu to be particularly pretty.

There's no jealously whatsoever. It's interesting to note that there are few recognizable Asian actresses in Hollywood. Lucy Liu is one of those recognized actresses, and many people in the West deem Lucy Liu pretty as if by default. There are a lot plenty of beautiful Asian women around, and Lucy Liu pales in comparison. That's just an opinion.

I simply don't think she's this beauty she's made out to be. That's all.

I don't think she's pretty...but she seems friendly and she has a nice figure so I think the overall package is good. In other words, I don't think Lucy Liu has problems getting dates. I'm sure a lot of men would date her because #1 she's very thin and petite (and I don't care what anyone says, men like that), she's a celebrity and she seems to have a good personality. Her face may not be that pretty but overall she's cute.

That's true, I don't think she's particularly beautiful regardless of what race she is.

Thanks for a thoughtful answer, Heart_leigh. I appreciate it.

I also don't think she's stunning, I do think she's cute with an attractive quality about her.

Asian standard or not, I think Lucy Liu is gorgeous. But these pics aren't the best of her.
