Default Vanity Fair The Hollywood Issue March 2012

In the first-ever Hollywood Issue cover shoot from Vanity Fair contributing photographer Mario Testino, a bevy of Hollywood’s most precocious beauties lounge across a three-panel foldout—including two new Oscar nominees. The Art Deco set was designed to evoke the all-white, Jazz Age interiors of English decorator Syrie Maugham, whose clients included Bunny Mellon, Elsa Schiaparelli, and the Duchess of Windsor; V.F.’s fashion and style director, Jessica Diehl, put the 11 cover starlets in pastel satin dresses and frothy feathers to lend a 20s and 30s boudoir feel. Across the panels are actresses Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Lily Collins, and Brit Marling. Mara and Chastain—both featured on the front panel—were nominated for Academy Awards in January, Mara for her portrayal of cyberpunk hacker Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Chastain for her supporting role in Tate Taylor’s Oscar heavyweight, The Help. (The Julliard grad also had starring roles in Take Shelter, The Tree of Life, and Coriolanus in 2011.)

I'm so out of the loop, I couldn't recognize any of these women right off the bat.

There are actually two, Paula Patton and Adepero Oduye (who's Nigerian).

Not everything is about colour. Grrrrrrr!

I don't recognise any of the girls but I like the styling.

I love the styling although some of the actresses hairstyles don't suit them.

I actually recognise some of them of the top of my head:

Lily Collins - Abduction soon to star in Mirror Mirror
Elizabeth Olsen - sister of the Olsen twins. She's in Mary, Martha, Mercy and getting rave reviews.

Rooney Mara - The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo remake
Jessica Chastain - can't remember what she's been in though LOL!
Jennifer Lawrence - Winters Bone soon to be seen in The Hunger Games

Felicity Jones - a Brit actress from a indie movie called Like Crazy. Getting a bit of buzz at the moment.

Sadly in a few years most of the women will have disappeared and probably be doing tv. Nothing wrong with that as the best drama is on tv at the moment.

This issue always pisses me off. This is what Hollywood is about sadly...all these up and coming "It" girls are always white. Of course they have to throw in a random black girl in to add some variety but I've never seen an Asian or a Latina on these covers. Arrgh it's so frustrating!!

I love Mia Wasikowska but it's not the best I've seen her look on the cover. I haven't seen Elizabeth Olsen's acting but the hype is annoying and I'm prepared to hate her just because she has that same vacuous monkey stare as the trolls. But I'll let her prove me wrong.

I barely know who any of the others are.

I know most of them when I read the name but didn't recognise a single one in the photos. Jessica Chastain and Felicity Jones are the only ones I see making it really big out of this bunch. I know Rooney Mara is right now but I haven't seen her in much else so wouldn't put my money on her current hype lasting.

The styling is nice in these pics but it's too hard to recognise who's who. It's not quite working for me.

    Rooney looks great.

Add me to that list as well. I recognized the same person, but from X-Men... because I'm a nerd.

I thought Felicity Jones was Ashlee Simpson. But then again I am looking at this on my phone.
