No wonder the tea bag ad didn't make sense. That's why Tetley hired her skank-ass. Ugh.

It's odd that they'd make a reference like that in an ad that they showed during the early evenings. I'd have assumed someone would have complained. They banned a Marmite ad that was a spoof of The Blob because it scared children, and plenty of people wanted the Ainsley Harriot ad where he kisses his stove to be banned because they thought people would kiss hot stoves and hurt themselves. They banned an ad...I think this was an ad for cars...because a woman fired a pistol at the end of it. She fired it into the air, though...like a starting pistol at a race. I mean, come on...if ads like that can elicit such a strong response, I'd think an ad containing a reference to testicle-sucking would be yanked off the air pretty damn sharpish.

^ those ads were more explicit in the violence or whatever was supposedly offensive, which is why they were probably yanked off-air.

In the tea-bag situation (or is it Tea Bag Situation??), the sexual overtones (undertones??) were more subtle. That's prolly why they kept it on air. People who might complain about the ad really can't prove that the tea bag reference is in any way sexual.

I think the Marmite ad was pulled because six parents complained. Whiners. Or maybe that was the Ainsley Harriot ad. I don't think that one was pulled, though. I think the government just said "fuck off" to that one. I think the one with the pistol was a complete overreaction, since there's an ad on TV now for men's cologne that shows a naked man running in slow motion. It shows his bare ass. I'm like...asses are OK, but a gun shot into the air is wrong? What the fuck?

Read about some other whining about ads:

http://www.asa.org.uk/NR/rdonlyres/A...t_5_Oct_05.pdf (read the Department of Health complaint where the complainants whined about an ad being offensive to SMOKERS)

http://www.asa.org.uk/NR/rdonlyres/F...28Sept2005.pdf (read the one about Unilever's Domestos Pipe Unblocker ad)

http://www.asa.org.uk/NR/rdonlyres/A...ns14Sept05.pdf (read the one about Insure and Go Ltd; the Swiftcover one is also very amusing)

Actually, the ASA website's adjudication section is an endless source of entertainment. People will complain about just about ANYTHING. I wonder what the US equivalent would be. Maybe the FCC?

Christ, they were annoying. Thank god they've stopped showing them.
Haven't seen the ads (and how good could they be)...but...

She had no choice but to take the endorsements.

She was no doubt in her forties and jumped at the chance.
How many women -- that's women, not college-aged girls --
get offered endorsements after 40? The age bias against them
is immense. Liz Hurley got dumped from her cosmetics endorsement
before she was 40; Isabella Rosellini had a make-up endorsement
go down the tubes because she dared turn 45.

And she's been dumped by her husbands before. She probably
was a trophy wife before, and now she's been dumped for one.
She just might have needed the money.

Lookin' good, Kimmy!
