I'm getting engaged
So the bf and I went to a wedding at a fancy resort this weekend, it was lovely. The next day we were walking around the village, and stopped in a very ridiculously high end jeweller, and he told me to pick a ring. I told him that there was no way I was getting anything from there, because it was far too expensive. So he said, "Well, I need to know what you like. I was going to buy a ring last week, and it cost $X, but I don't know if you'll like it."
Suffice it to say that at the time, the $X seemed ridiculously high to me. I told him if he got me a ring that cost that much, I'd make him return it. So we talked some more, and decided that I would basically find the ring, then send him to buy it. Romantic, I know, but hey, what can I say?
Well, it turns out that he seems to have a much better idea of how much things cost. I found my dream ring, and it's right at the price range he suggested. So, without sounding like a greedy little bitch, how do I get him over to the jeweller's?

Get what you want since you'll (hopefully) be wearing it for a LONG time!
Congrats to you and your man! Wishing you many years of happiness!

Darl - Forget the price! If he raised the topic of rings in the first place then I'd say you have a Green Light to get whatever you want. Lesson #1 about marriage - if you man is prepared to spend $$$ on you, don't argue, enjoy!

Well, we talked about it last night. I gave him the card to the jeweller, and told him how much the ring was. He said, "Are you going to wear it all the time? Maybe we should get a fake one made as well". I said that we'd have to have insurance, but I'd much rather know I was wearing my real ring.
We're meeting with the jeweller in a few weeks.
Here's the ring.

Congrats! Beautiful ring. All the best!
Now...listen to me. Don't be so practical now, especially if it's in your nature to be practical. I always remember a story my friend told me. Her husband brought home flowers every week. Just a nice bunch for her to enjoy. Once the baby was born, she went all practical and said don't buy flowers for me, we should spend it on the baby.
She never got flowers again. Seriously.
Not because he was insulted. He knew that she meant it so he just stopped. She never felt comfortable bringing it up again. So enjoy this part of the romance!

Very, very purty ring!! And to what Chalet said, I completely agree. Now, I can't believe what we spent on my ring over 10 years ago. I could think of much better ways to spend that money, I am so glad I got it then!!!
If you can afford it, why not?

I'm not a fan of solitaires myself, but as they go, this is a nice one. My only suggestion would be to ask if they can do a bevel cut -- I've had a ring in this style (nowhere near as valuable tho) and found it caught on everything. Plus, I was always worried about the prongs getting loose.
Just a thought. As for the romance, my husband buys me flowers every Friday -- he is much more romantic than me and always complains about how practical and unromantic I am!

Beautiful ring! Not all trashy and tacky like some I've seen. Looks like a wise choice. They used to say that you should get something classic with more diamonds than you think you might want so you'll be happy with it forever.
Congrats!

I'm planning on getting a radiant cut (kind of a rounded off square) because I'm not a big fan of the round one. It's much more bevelled, so I'm hoping it won't get caught. It's not really a "stick out" ring, although it looks like it in the picture. Basically, they can do whatever I want in terms of modifications, but I just love the styles of the Tacori brand.
