Angry Scientists say women fall for married men by being attracted to wife's skin's scent

Quote:
The mystery of why women frequently fall for married men may have finally been solved by scientists.
Women may be genetically programmed to seek out men who carry the scent of their wives' skin.

They find a man carrying the smell of another woman more attractive than a 'clean' male, according to studies on mice.

Dr Donald Pfaff, professor of neurobiology at Rochester University in New York, explained: "The implication was that the test females would pay more attention to the male if he was decorated with the odours of other females.

"Our data suggests that female mice may use, or even copy, the interests of other females based on olfactory cues. It could also be seen as a female trusting the mate choice of another female."

The females were not put off even if the mouse that had been in contact with another female was infected with parasites. Normally they would reject an unhealthy partner.

The theory would help explain why mistresses throughout the ages have rejected the safety of monogamous relationships and instead chosen to risk complicated love triangles.

Actress Angelina Jolie was said to have become close to Brad Pitt on the set of the film Mr & Mrs Smith while Pitt was married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston.

Scientists say the key lies in the chemical oxytocin, nicknamed the 'attachment hormone' because it has been shown by previous studies to be involved in bonding. It is released during childbirth, breastfeeding and sex, and is important for long-term loving relationships.

Female mice that had no oxytocin - because they were missing the relevant gene - did not choose the 'attached' males over single ones.

Humans are likely to show similar responses as different types of mammals have closely related hormones.

Dr Barry Keverne, professor at Cambridge University's zoology department and an expert on hormones and behaviour, said it was also possible that females were selecting the males because of a "sisterhood" effect.

He said: "The smell may have made females think the male was another female, and she'd be more likely to be sociable. Other females are going to be helping them in terms of telling them about the right kind of food to eat, which they can pick up from odour, and also helping them look after their infants."

Dr Pfaff's theory is supported by observations of similar "mate-copying" behaviour in fish and birds.

What a load of nonsense.

Ha ha, how funny. How can you smell a womans scent on a man exactly? I know they are talking about scientific jargon and hormones here but my first thought was "Yup my boyf is walking around in a cloud of my perfume right now".

Okay, so where in this study does the man get any of the blame?

OK, WOMEN are attracted to another WOMEN'S scent on the man. And the man is just a poor, helpless little creature, forced into a damn affair! Poor thing!

I doubt that even a tiny mouse brain is going to confuse a male mouse with a female just because a female's scent is on him. I see it as far more likely that a man with another woman's scent on him is attractive because this signals that this guy is wanted by others. He's hot! The female mouse is going to sniff the 'clean' male and think "Hmmm, nobody wants this one. There must be something wrong with him."

Regarding the Brad/Jen/Angelina thing, if it were Jen's *smell* that attracted Angie then whatever flirting with Brad would have been just so she could get closer to Jen! In other words, she simply would have just went after Jen! (which would have been infinitely more interesting!)
