I've done it several times and although it has it's moments of difficulty it's generally a good thing. You meet alot of different people, see alot of things you'd never see otherwise and generally grow as a person--as long as you don't sit around bitching about the 'way things are back home'. I miss familya nd friends but the circle of people I know is so much larger due to moving around.

I think for me the big thing would be cleanliness.. i wouldn't move to some place that was filthy or had lower cleanliness standards.. i do NOT want to live in an entire country that looks, smells and has encrustations like chinatown. Sorry, china, but like srsly.. clean that shit up.

Don't forget the giant grey soot clouds that hang over the cities in China....
The "turkish" style toilets, the people defecating in the streets, the brown and neon green rivers, the nice habit of hawking phlegm into the streets.....
China is on my list with Pakistan of places I've been and tossed out my shoes when I got back on US soil

Yeah, that and India. Rich in history, steeped in shit. Sorry guys but like.. it's the 21st century. Shitting in the street is BAD FOR PUBLIC HEALTH. You'd think after a few thousand years of 'civilization' they'd know that by now. Yech.

My family on my father's side came from England [Coventry] and Scotland [a town on the border whose name I can't recall at the moment], so I would love the chance to go over and have a look around. I think it would be nice to stay for a while, but I doubt I would ever leave Canada permanently.

I've always thought Canada would be a land of opportunities... not sure I could deal with the weather, though...

I've emigrated several times and never regretted it. Born in the UK but moved to South Africa when I was 3. Went back to the UK for a year when I was 17 and then emigrated to Malta. That didn't work out because of work permit issues so back to the UK. Lived there for 9 years but hated the weather. I'd grown up with actual summers, so I am now living in Gibraltar which is as close to South African weather as I can get while still being able to live in a country that speaks English. This is home now, as my whole family left South Africa, my parents live in France and my brother lives in Canada.
What can I say, I get restless

The plan of my life is to eventually move to Australia.
I know once I go there, I won't be coming back. Though Canada is a great country and I'll always come back and visit

There are many places I'd love to visit, but I could never live anywhere but here.

My advice is that if you get an opportunity to live and work overseas, even if it's not permanent and especially if you don't have the encumbrances of sick/old parents, kids, etc etc then DO IT. Even if you hate it you can count it as a great learning experience and it gives you a broader outlook on life and on the world in general and makes you a more interesting person. Move out of your comfort zone and you will be amazed how quickly you find another comfort zone somewhere else.

In ten to fifteen years, ya'll can find me living on the coast of Portugal with a dog and a fishing pole in a little stone cottage.
I'm a fan of the simple life and it's getting harder and harder to live it in the U.S.
