Similar to the study that indicated that most obese people don't see themselves that way, I'm willing to bet that the people most in need of this pamphlet won't see that they have a problem and will merrily continue with their rudeness. Total cultural insensitivity.

This rather reminded me of the classic line that used to appear in old films and TV shows of the 50's and 60's when some tourist is confronted with some situation they don't like or treatment they percieve as substandard, "But, I'm an American!". Funny how they don't use that anymore!

I had to go to a dinner with Taiwanese and Aussie clients. I thought the Aussies drank.

Most corporations have been issuing cultural travel guidelines for quite some time. Stupid is as stupid does.
Drive a car, drive a boat, drive a plane. What does it matter? As long as I'm drunk!

Finnish, German and Argentinian tourists are right up there too, however. Plus the latter's accent is...far from endearing.
Along that same line...I had Easter brunch here: http://www.thebreakers.com/. Nice place, right? Well, not according to some tourists, who attended brunch in sarongs, flops and filthy straw hats. Sorry, but I don't want to see extra-crispy 50 year old thigh when I am eating, OK? Oh and they SMELLED really bad.

I have a wee flag on my travelling backpack, but I don't drape myself in them or anything. It was a beautiful thing in Scotland, we got tons of rides from natives and transplanted Canucks alike who were more than happy to pick up some Canadians and told us so. We were only assumed to be American once by a Scot when we were without our backpacks - we responded by asking what part of England he was from.

What he actually said was something like "American, Canadian - same thing, right?" So we responded in kind. They don't like that, I guess.

    Not to mention:

"What time does the one o'clock gun go off?"

"Why did they build the ruins so close to the road?"

Why don't you all stay home and be elitest in your own communities.

Who cares what tourists act like. They always go home - after they've spent all their money.

Oh Hello, I agree with you here! If I'm assisting your crappy country with my almighty dollars, I expect politeness. That's why I'm never going back to France, they can be as socialist as they want and can suffer the consequences without my tourism money.

Wicked, I actually thought you said, "...they can be as A.C.L.U.istic as PETA." I was like, 'whoa, that's TOTALLY liberal," until I read that you mean the real word, not a wordified acronym....

^^So what you're saying is that no matter how rude and obnoxious a tourist is, American or otherwise, the rest of the world is supposed to bow and scrape because of your "almighty dollar," which ain't so almighty any more by the way if you care to look. No wonder the French were rude to you.

I was in Paris a while ago and I was surprised by how friendly everyone one was, quite a difference from 20 or so years ago. But then, a lot of Americans like you were staying home munching their "Freedom fries" so maybe that was the reason everybody was in such a good mood.

I hear if you drive the backwheels of your RV in to a marsh it's kinda like a thermal spring.

And it's always heartwarming to see famous landmarks with "Billy Bob Joe was here" carved in to them.
