I've been back for a while now, but just thought I'd report back on the Ireland experience. Well.....we had NO idea there was a college football game in Dublin's Croke Park the weekend we were there. Penn State vs. UCF, and the Penn St. cultists were everywhere!! The pubs and Temple Bar area were packed with them, so that kind of sucked to be another American there during that time. Suddenly, the difficulty in getting a hotel room made sense. Other than that, we met up with a friend there and did some pub crawling, dragged the kid around Trinity College, the wax museum (he was terrified, lol), Guinness Brewery, etc. The best part of that leg of the trip was taking a train to Dalkey, it was like a ghost town in comparison, beautiful village. We managed to find the harbor where this guy took us on a speedboat over to the little island, which was awesome. Seals were poking their heads up and lots of ruins and wildlife on the island. You could see the coastline where all the rich and famous Irish people live.

It was a great trip overall, did south coast of England, stayed in London several days, and after Ireland, took the ferry back to Wales. Drove down thru Snowdonia to the Brecon Beacons. It was just beautiful, and we went in on a guesthouse with family there, which used to be an 18th century Wesleyan chapel. My son had never met his English cousins before, so a big time was had, and we made all the kids hike the Sugarloaf Mountain. None of us really wanted to come back home.
Ravenna, dolem and ikmccall like this.
