Around Christmas , we used to take the train up from Baltimore when I was a kid and spend a couple of days in NYC. It was the best.

^^My family used to go to Wannamakers in Philly before Christmas and walk around. It was pretty cool when I was a kid.....
Is that place still around now?

This should be a great time!! Enjoy!!

It is now Macy's but they restored the light show and it is still an annual ritual for my family. We take the train into the city, go to Macy's for the light show, lunch at Reading Terminal Market, etc. It's just a 20 minute train ride so that's an easy one. We go to NYC at the Holiday each year too but are usually rishing to get to a show. This is the first time we are going just for the windows. I can't wait!

On the flip side, does anyone have any Tri State suggestions? We are broke and not celebrating Christmas this year and decided to forgo the crazy shopping and the decorating and the tree for instead a simple visit to a "Christmas Village" type thing. Sorta the reverse? Any suggestions?

There's North Pole NY up in the Adirondacks by Whiteface.....I haven't been there since I was a kid, but it's still there.

Maybe New Hope PA does something?

Peddlers Village, next to New Hope, does a nice display. Which tri-state area are you referring to though? NY, NJ, CT?

Thanks flip. I did see your post. We have done the tram before and it was great. We will not have time for it on this trip though. Thanks.

Yes!! Still there! Though I haven't been there in years myself, but hear it's still pretty cute (the North Pole/Santa's Village). And New Hope is a GREAT suggestion--what a gorgeous, quaint town. My Grandmother lived about 5 minutes from it....its just adorable!!!

Damn, maybe I'll have to go now..
