I've been to that area several times. Never got sick once.

I like tex mex type mexican food, so real mexican food is not great to me. It seems very bland. Not a fan.

I've never noticed anything scary or ever felt unsafe, no matter where I've ever gone there. Maybe I'm naive, but there were always lots of people around and it just seemed like any other big town/city environment.

Of all the places in the area I've seen, Tulum was my hands-down favorite with the most gorgeous water & the ruins, etc. Cancun is fun for the resorts & nightlife. Playa del Carmen is charming, but still a little touristy, imo, at least by the beach. Cozumel is beautiful but again, touristy and kind of pricey. I would go back to Cancun. The water is beautiful and there's lots to do.

My niece is getting married there in October. I can't afford to go but I looked it up online and it looks fabulous.

its true! except for the beer belly you get when you stay there for an extended period and are "forced" to drink coronas in lieu of water

Ooh I have not been here Grimm, but it has been on my list for the last two years. Not sure how nutty you are but they had an excursion I really wanted to try where you swim with sharks. Not great whites or anything but it still sounds like a fun experience.

It is supposed to be gorgeous so I am sure you'll have a blast.

Do NOT use bookit.com. They are the worst. They tell you a price and you call or click to book and it goes up a couple hundred. We were going to use them in July but went with another website.

October is a little early for the Bull sharks. They are just showing up in November. But I see Black Tip and Caribbean reef sharks more often diving Cancun that any other site.

never been, but two friends went about 6 months ago and they got an incredible deal at some ritzy resort. they liked it a lot. they got to relax which is what they wanted and also took a couple of day trips to some small town nearby and saw the old part of santo domingo which is supposed to be quite pretty.

Straight from the website of the Canadian Government. I referred to this site often when I worked in the travel industry.
