me too. i'm fucking cheap when it comes to hotels. i'd much rather spend my money on other stuff when i'm travelling (shopping, raiding museum shops, good restaurants, etc). though i might be willing to shell out a bit more at this place just to have a private room, the idea of communal sleeping with strangers doesn't really appeal to me anymore. i did it for years in my backpacking days but i think i've outgrown it.

Looks like an average style hostel to me that most travelers wouldn't bat an eye at. But I guess if you market it as some artsy-fartsy "hotel" instead of just a dormitory, you bring in the yuppies wanting to make a "statement" about how they're roughing it so badly.

    Pfft, wannabes.

I've stayed in genuine communist era leftover hotels in Bulgaria during my teens-AND they cost less way less than six euros. Nice effort and all, but do the doors refuse to lock. Is the heating broken while there are two meters of snow outside? If not, I'm not impressed.

Or how about some dodgy rooms in Amsterdam, with FIVE roaches running on the bed? Though to be fair, I didn't so much 'stay' there as 'entered the room and left screaming'.

The minimalist approach is kind of cool, but I agree that the communal sleeping and bathrooms would gross me out.

yarp. This smacks of pretention to me, like people that shop at budget food shops who think they're being all edgy (see the lyrics of 'Common People' for an idea of what I mean)
I took her to a supermarket
I don't know why, but I had to start it somewhere
    So it started... there
I said "Pretend you've got no money."
But she just laughed an said "Oh you're so funny."
    I said "Yeah?
Well I can't see anyone else smiling in here

Are you sure you want to live like common people
You want to see whatever common people see
You want to sleep with common people
You want to sleep with common people like me?"

    But she didn't... understand
She just smiled and held my hand

Rent a flat above a shop
Cut your hair and get a job
Smoke some fags and play some pool
Pretend you never went to school
But still you'll never get it right
'cos when you're laid in bed at night
    Watching roaches climb the wall
If you called your dad he could stop it all yeah

It looks ALOT better than prison. Really. Luxurious in comparison. Not that I would want to stay at either one or anything.

I'd stay there, it doesn't look too bad. Like many have already said, my first thought was, it's a hostel, bfd!
