Only tacky losers use "tu", it's like sticking your finger in someone's face. The polite plural is still in effect over here, for civilized people. I've never been to France but I imagine I would get along just fine with my grasp of the language.. the only think I have a problem with are numbers, when you get above 60 or so.. the 70's, 80's and 90's i can't keep straight in my head lol

I just think that there's something about the French outlook in life that doesn't agree with me. I like the language, the literature, most of the cinema and Paris and many other places I visited were utterly beautiful. I'm not completely averse to visiting but in general France just isn't for me.
I agree with you. I liked the museums and all the sight seeing but I don't think I'd want to live there.

I was too! Most people I know don't want to live here...

I could live in Spain or Italy or Holland, no problem. DH isn't keen on relocating that far away. Florida and California are on the table at the moment.

Sputnik, is your numbering messed up and the second list with Austria at the top should be No. 14 etc?

Well, as it says in the article:

The magazine surveyed 194 countries on nine criteria: cost of living, culture and leisure, economy, environment, freedom, health, infrastructure, safety and risk, and climate.

France is lovely, although the people can be a tad trying. Just humour them by being twice as arrogant and you're good to go. I love the UK, Sweden is cool, Denmark great, Norway not so great (oil rich little sister syndrome), Australia nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there, Germany ok, Spain nice to visit but no thanks, Italy wonderful but the men are a bit meh, Holland very nice, Finland ok but the language is...interesting, Ireland is pretty ok, Monaco kind of tacky....can't think of anymore but generally I'm all about Europe.

what butt said. all my danish and swedish friends mock norway for being a typical oil-rich country: lots of oil, not a lot of brains or sense of humour. kinda like the texas or alberta of scandinavia, except more socialist.

I think Norway is beautiful but too cold and expensive for me.

I don't know about brains... looks like they've had the brains to use the oil wisely. The Scandinavians are always mocking each other so I don't know whether I can take anything seriously I think the Danes and Swedes are a bit jealous of Norway because of the oil.

Yes. I once got two copies of the same issue of a magazine, one in Danish and one in Norwegian. The jokes were exactly the same in both except the Danes were the butt of them in the Norwegian copy and the Norwegians were the butt of them in the Danish copy. (I wonder which nation was the butt of the jokes in the Swedish copy...)

I also agree about the jealousy over the oil.
