Maybe you could go on a short cruise for a few days with some friends if your husband won't budge? There are 3 and 4 day cruises on just about every line, I think.

I told him last night that I would just go with someone else...just teasing him. Of course, he wouldn't care a bit if I went with some friends. Definitely something to consider.

Me and my bf are going on our very first cruise in March, to the Caribbean. It's on Princess and it's for ten days. I am terrified after reading this thread, there's no way I'm going to check out Cruise critic!

I'm not sure what I'd do if I was trying to use a pool and a bunch of big gay hairy men were filming porn in it. I can guarantee you that it wouldn't be pretty, though, and might involve trying to smash deck chairs over noggins if it wasn't stopped immediately. I don't understand - how they can get away with this behaviour?

Enjoy Princess, we love it. Cruise Critic CAN be fun at times-you can go find a thread called a "roll call" and connect with people who will be on the same cruise as you. It's also really good for finding info if you're a first time cruiser and for finding reviews of the cruise or ship you will be going on (so you can know what to expect, I suppose).

I took the kids for a hellish week on P&O Pacific Sky around the south Pacific. The ship should have been called HMS Soddom & Gomorrah - it was a floating drunken orgy 24/7. The food was crap, the people were horrible, and I only really felt safe/comfortable in my cabin. Venturing out into public areas after about 10pm was a Bad Idea and walking around on outside decks, especially in less busy areas was a Very Bad Idea. There were 2 cases of meningitis when we got back (one fatal) and both my kids came home with headlice. I dread to think how many happy holidaymakers went home with an STD too.

I'd be too afraid of motion sickness. Sometimes I get it sometimes I don't.

All I know is that I had the most fabulous time on my cruise, but despite that, all these posts have scared the crap out of me (especially A*O's) and I might be too afraid to ever take one again!!!

It can be a very positive, enjoyable, memorable experience BUT I'd always book via an experienced cruise agent or rely on personal experience or maybe hearsay from other's who've had a good time on a particular line or ship. And be prepared to ask 'awkward' questions like "what age group can I expect to find?" or "is this ship/cruise popular with the party crowd". I did a bit of research but not enough. Rule of thumb tends to be, obviously, the more luxurious/expensive the ship the older the passengers are likely to be. The cheapo cruises appeal to the sex addicts I was stuck with on the high seas for 10 days. I won't make the same mistake again - in fact we are tentatively thinking about maybe risking a cruise around Hawaii next year with Royal Caribbean BUT I have the same problem as sweetrebel - a very reluctant husband. I know he'd be like a caged animal and probably go feral.
