Default Talk to me about Tuscany

I want to plan a visit from the US to Tuscany. I will spend 2-3 days in Rome and Umbria to meet some family first. Then I want to enjoy a relaxing time in the Tuscan region. We will want to do sightseeing of course, Florence, etc. I want to also make sure we have some time to just sit still and take it all in. I feel home sick when I see the rolling hills with the vineyards and olive trees. I welcome recommendations of places to stay and things to see and do. Thanks!

see the David......go to the Uffizi, the Bargello...the Duomo...the Pitti...the Ponte Vecchio over the Arno River.....the Boboli garden....be sure to have bistecca alla fiorentina

It's one of the places that you can't go wrong seeing the touristy sights....I've stayed at the Cavour, but there are tons of places to stay....

My SO's sister and I stayed for two weeks a couple of years back, we took a great cooking class....it's a beautiful city

Lucky you, sluce,i did it with my SIL a couple of years back.
We stayed in Florence and did Tuscany by bus from Florence.
Do NOT miss Sienna and San Gimigniano,a beautiful walled uphill village with strange stone towers.
Buses are cheap,in the center of Florence and they ride out all the time,i got timetables first thing there and i could arrange my scedule.
You can also visit leaning tower of Piza, but there is nothing else to see there.
I made the mistake of giving half a day to Sienna...next time it will be an over night visit..one of the most magical places Sienna is.
The bus rides gave us amazing vews of the countryside too.
We also visited Lucca, not impressed exept an old theater and a big touristy plazza.
If you avoid the many tourist traps, you will have no problem with food,i lived on icecream and fruit salad there..
In Florence,do not miss Uffizzi gallery, but buy tickets in advance to avoid waiting in line.
There are open markets too,Mercato Centrale is my favorite.
Ok i ll shut up now..if you want something more just let me know..
I ve been to Florence 4 times and i know things..

Thanks for all the great suggestions so far. I have to go to Montalcino to see a certain vineyard. I'll see Rome and family in Sant Antonlia first then off to Tuscany. It's going to kill me wait until next May to go!!

You can slide into one of my bags and see if you can get past the TSA. Just leave the shoes at home. We'll buy more in Italy.

Thanks you all for the feedback. I can't wait to go. Effie - I will PM you soon. I want more details about the bus system. That sounds like the best plan. The cost of getting a car is high and I am afraid I would spend a lot of time going in circles. I looked into hiring a private guide but they want $500-900 euro for one day!!! I'm sure I can find my own way and I'll make like Becky and do my own research!!!

    Nooooo,no car,some friends did it,too costly,confusing and stressing.
It is really easy and cheap with buses and trains, tho buses are better.
I can help you with places and distances,no problem,it is really easy to find your way around, learn some key words in Italian too.I did it after all..lol
I love to do this, its like going there again, and do not miss Sienna..
