I just looked up the recipe for a zombie cocktail, and I think the amazing part is that you would ever wake up again after ingesting it.

    1/2 oz Bacardi® 151 rum
    1 oz pineapple juice
    1 oz orange juice
    1/2 oz apricot brandy
    1 tsp sugar
    2 oz light rum
    1 oz dark rum
    1 oz lime juice

Blend all ingredients with ice except Bacardi 151 proof rum. Pour into a collins glass. Float Bacardi 151 proof rum on top. Garnish with a fruit slice, sprig of mint and a cherry

They're a specialty in Chinese restaurants here, quite delicious. You can barely taste the alcohol.

I associate them with Chinese restaurants, too. There were two other drinks that I used to see all the time on the menus - one was called a Suffering Bastard, which my brother and I really found amusing.

At our favorite Thai/Chinese restaurant, my brother ordered either a zombie or another similar drink that we had been curious about for a while. When I came out of the bathroom it was sitting in front of him at the table and it was the size of a damn fishbowl, and came with two straws. He gamely drank it all by himself and was almost blotto by the time we left.

So basically it's rum and fructose. Very Kardashian. If you're looking at alcohol content a good Long Island Iced Tea will put you under the table much quicker.

    60ml (1/4 cup) water
    3 cups ice cubes
    80ml (1/3 cup) chilled vodka
    80ml (1/3 cup) tequila
    80ml (1/3 cup) white rum
    80ml (1/3 cup) gin
    60ml (1/4 cup) Cointreau liqueur
60ml (1/4 cup) fresh lemon juice
    250ml (1 cup) chilled cola

My fondest memories of Zombies were several years back when I was out with some friends in a bar downtown. A lovely little place called Pop that sadly is no more. We were celebrating a birthday and the bartenders knew us. I had a huge glass, I swear it was the size of a vase and the bartender kept topping it up. At some point I must have drunk the equivalent of 2 and a half zombies. I went to work the next day. I was not sober yet.

Zombies knock me on my ass. Very tasty and I'm not a sweet drink person.

We have a Mexican restaurant near us that has a drink called an Adios Amigos. Limit two per person. It's 46 ounces of 3 types of rum, tequila, brandy and a few other things. It's tasty, but I've only had a sip or two. Sweet drinks, again, are not my thing.

There's a bar here by the airport called "the flying beaver". In my 20's my friend and I spent an evening there drinking zombies. I stayed at her place that night and I did not regain consciousness until my sister called me at 5 pm the next day. I drove home and had to crawl up the stairs from the garage. First and last evening of zombies.

Aw! Good times! Cheltenham Gold Cup week, on champagne & realising that although it was 4pm & I'd had no alcohol that day, I was still pissed from the night before. So I called the garage, told them I wasn't picking my car up that day, had a bath & went out to the bars again!

48 ounces is not one person's drink it's 6 persons' drinks imo. Especially of spirits.

Mo, the one I had was not rum and sugar. It had little faff and much more kick, vodka, tequila, absinthe - no flouncy sugar!

brooklyn does a Bastille Day celebration every year, it's the biggest one outside france i think. an entire street closed off to make pétanque courts, etc. it's insane. and you walk around in the blazing heat, drinking pastis and listening to french music and watching dudes play petanque (french bocci ball).
anyhoo, last summer i was there, drinking, it was blazing hot. decided to go into a bar to cool off. we had zombies. zombies + sun stroke = projectile vomit. not pretty.
