Can anyone recommend a fairly priced, comfortable hotel in NYC? Thanks.

Embassy Suites in the Meatpacking District is really nice. I stayed there when I went on a class trip and it was only part of the $2000 cost for the entire 5 day trip so I thought it was a good price.
I did a search on hotels.com and there are a few places that have VERY LOW nightly rates but Im not sure how clean or nice they are.

    Suggestion:

Stay at the Marriott Courtyard in Jersey City, NJ (right across the water). It's MUCH, MUCH cheaper than NYC hotels. And the Marriott is located next door to the PATH train, which you can take (like a subway) directly into NYC for like, $2.50! For us, it was worth it and we were safe AND had a little more spending money!!

I can tell you one to avoid unless you like staying in a broom cupboard. First time we went we stayed in the Paramount (Times Square area). It has a very funky lobby and a nice bar, but the rooms are teeny tiny. The first room we were given had one UK double sized bed, with about a foot of floor space around it. We had to take it in turns moving round, and put our empty suitcases on top of the TV. Luckily my husband's charm worked and he chatted the receptionist into giving us a room twice the size for nothing.

Last time we went we were there for two weeks, and stayed at the Fitzpatrick Grand Central, which is where British Airways put their cabin crew. It isn't posh, and we had a pretty dark room at the back of the hotel, but it was a large room, a large bed, and it was clean, and absolutely quiet. We only had a meal there once as it was over priced and not a patch on what you can get elsewhere. But we'll stay there next time we go.
A big boy did it and ran away.

The Bentley Hotel. I've sent many people there. Should be about 125 to 170 and you can get a very good deal online.

It's chic, nice sized rooms, great bathroom, very clean, restaurant/bar at the top with a view of the city, in a quiet neighborhood.

It's also out of the way from the mid town mess. 4 blocks from Bloomingdales for shopping.

I live in NYC. PM me if you like.

Useful tips. I may be going to NYC early next year and have been warned about shoebox sized rooms.
