Are you offended by this tourist advert?
Tourism Australia has just released this advert www.wherethebloodyhellareyou.com (click 'yes' on the security prompt). There's a lot of discussion about whether the final words/slogan - "so where the bloody hell are you?" - are going to tempt overseas tourtists to visit Oz or whether it just confirms the perception that Aussies are a bit crude and unsophisticated. I have to say that the word 'bloody' is used extensively and without causing any offence whatsoever here, but I can understand that potential visitors from overseas might be slightly put off.
The tourism people say they have done extensive market research and the feedback was positive, but judging from the general public's mixed reaction here I'd say they might have misjudged how the Advert will be received overseas.
As my sample group of tame Forners, what's your opinion?

Re: Are you offended by this tourist advert?
Doesn't bother me. A lot of people outside of Britain and Oz don't know bloody is a bad word. I used it freely until my mother finally caught on, but by then we had moved to Europe.

Re: Are you offended by this tourist advert?
No, I'm not offended by the words "bloody hell."
I think you have to consider the context in which these "cuss words" are used and the context in this case, tourism ad, isn't offensive at all. The commercial itself looks very wholesome, friendly and welcoming.
Has anyone seen the Dairy Queen popcorn shrimp ad? I was a little offended when the momma shrimp calls the daddy shrimp an "idiot." In the ad, the daddy shrimp is just floating around eating something. Momma shrimp comes by and says "What are you eating honey?" and he says "I'm eating popcorn from Dairy Queen." And momma tries some and yells "these are not popcorn you IDIOT!! Those are popcorn SHRIMP. ARGGGGHHHH" The reason why I wasn't too amused by the ad was because I didn't think a parent should be calling another parent an idiot. Kids will learn that kind of thing (to disrespect a parent/adult etc) from watching the ad. Plus, it's just cannibalism for shrimps to be eating shrimp

But I want to have the first GR baby!!! (you wait til I'm a parent!!!)
I don't mind calling my hubby an idiot. I call him stupid all the time but I wouldn't want to do that in front of my kids, that is all~

Ooooo, I'm trying now. If we synchronize it just right, they can come out of their little wombs and hop onto their little computers and start to it!
ETA: Ok, I'm not actually trying, like right now. Oh, cheese and rice, it's been a long day.

Re: Are you offended by this tourist advert?
Bloody doesn't seem a swear word to me. I use it in jest, "that bloody alarm clock is on the blink", "He bloody pisses me off", "Bloody Hell", "Of all the bloody places in the world..." etc. I do remember my mum shouting at me for using it when I was younger though.

Re: Are you offended by this tourist advert?
^^ I know, I thought it was a bit viscious for some of the kiddies!
It just reminds me of me at work, getting pissed off with my computer because it keeps crashing!!

Re: Are you offended by this tourist advert?
I thought it was a cute commerical. Bloody hell doesn't bother me, but I think people should swear more in general anyway.

Re: Are you offended by this tourist advert?
^^ Why's that?
I hardly ever use to swear but since working in this office I swear like a soldier, especially when I'm with my bf, its because there are loads of lads and they swear in pratically ever sentence so it rubs off!
