Thanks, Honey. The Grand Canyon is one of my favorite places ever.
Although the Grand Canyon is a desert, it's a kind of oasis in winter -- a place of peace, free of summer's crowds and traffic jams. Below, hikers coming up out of the canyon on the South Kaibab trail, headed for the South Rim.

I've been there twice. Man, it's so amazing! I'd love to go back soon.
I've flown over it...............
Only the good die young.........................
bitches like me live forever!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've only been there in the spring and summer, and there are a couple of things about going when it actually is crowded. One, it's a completely international crowd, Two, it's more likely that you can see an interesting art exhibit or performance. I went this summer and got to see some really nice exhibition dances by some young Hopis.
I've only been to the South Rim, never been to the North Rim, but my understanding is that the north side is usually pretty quiet, even in good weather, and snow-covered in the winter.

I've always wanted to do the mule ride (ever since I saw it on the "Brady Bunch"), but I can't find anyone who will do it with me. The one person I got to agree didn't meet the weight requirement (less than 200 lbs.).
Thanks, Kristi--I only remembered reading about the North Rim being really intense in the winter in the past for some of the Canyon workers who had cabins there. I can't imagine running rim to rim--the rapid change in elevation would be impossible for most people to take!

I will visit this beautiful place one day-I will! The pictures alone are breathtaking, so one can only imagine how beautiful it is in person.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.
I've never even considered going there but after seeing these pictures I'm already looking up flights.

So beautiful. My family went once during summer vacay when I was still in junior high. We didn't spend very long there and I'd love to go back one day. Looking at these pics, I'd like to see it in the winter especially.
That requirement is probably getting harder and harder to find these days. I'd probably be scared shitless, but I'd do it!
The mules are supposed to be very sure-footed. We'd like to do it, but my child is too young.
