I'd say the girl in the ad is chubby, in that puppyfat way kids are. Chubby doesn't equal fat anyway.

I love the copy on that Chubbettes ad:

If your favorite little girl is on the plump side, dress her in Chubbettes and see her blossom into a lovely lass - as happy and self-assured as her slimmer schoolmates.
If a girl didn't have a complex, that would probably give her one.

I'm still struck by what was considered "chubby" back 50, 60, 70 years ago. Today that girl would be considered perfectly normal and "chubby" would be a 10 year old in a U.S. size 16 with more than a few rolls.

    ^Yep, it's quite disturbing.

Was the end of this kind of language in advertising the beginning of the overweight trend? You know - stop shaming people and it will eventually become more acceptable? Am I making sense - I can't tell. I haven't had my morning coffee yet.

Both of these 'chubby' girls in the old ads are really cute.

And I don't see why 'chubby' girls got their own line when some of us who were stick thin never had clothes that fit properly Petites don't start kicking in until you're a tween, at least.

Yep. And what about people who are tall? I'd never find things long enough.
