I bet they all wear tons of really bad perfume as well. They are so tacky but so entertaining!

Do they have Best Legs competition?

Is this their version of Ascot? I must google because this is all so new to me.

Stunning. When I say stunning I mean every single outfit stuns the eye of the beholder with sheer disbelief. Do they have the same personal shopper??

That's a lorra lorra leg! Liverpool's finest fillies dress to impress for Aintree's Ladies Day

    By Deborah Andrews
    PUBLISHED: 11:20 GMT, 13 April 2012 | UPDATED: 13:07 GMT, 13 April 2012

It's Ladies Day at Aintree - that annual celebration of racing and fashion that sees colourfully dressed women from all over Liverpool and beyond come out in their droves to see and be seen at the Merseyside racecourse.

This morning, it was as though a flock of colourful birds had landed in the North West race course as ladies in a cornucopia of colours flowed through the gates to take in the day's racing.

There were hats aplenty, from the kind of feathered flourish of a fascinator it was recently announced had been banned from the Royal Enclosure at Ascot, to broad-brimmed creations trimmed with giant blooms.

Striking a pose: There was much enthusiasm in the air as the ladies arrived at the Merseyside racecourse

Here come the girls! The first guests arrive for Aintree's annual Ladies Day

Brightening up: The sun shone at Aintree today, giving racegoers the chance to soak up the rays - though there was a chill in the air, with the mercury hovering at 10c

There was a dazzling array of outfits, from long and lavish evening gowns embellished with Swarovski crystal, to frothy babydoll dresses or neatly tailored suits.
As ever, given the Liverpool lady's predilection for high octane grooming, there was plenty of leg on show that had been meticulously bronzed, hair was coiffed to perfection and make-up was expertly applied.
Many of those attending will be entering the fashion competition held by Matalan at the venue, which sees the best dressed lady walk away with a £5,000 cash prize.

Jeff Brazier will host the contest, which is to be judged by Anna Dowd, Fashion Producer at This Morning; fashion stylist Nicole Smallwood; the winner of Matalanís Bloggers search competition Really Ree, Liz Wilson, Head of Design at Matalan and former Emmerdale actress, Roxanne Pallett.
Vicki Connolly, Matalan's Brand Manager said, 'Matalan are super excited to have two of the nation's best loved personalities team up with Matalan for our Style Contest and fashion shows.
Itís one of the biggest fashion events on the races calendar and the girls and guys go all out to impress.'
Coleen Rooney, who attended the race meet yesterday wearing a stunning hot pink Roksanda Illincic dress and Christian Louboutin shoes, is set to arrive this morning for a second day, while Alex Gerrard is scheduled to attend with girlfriends.

Best dressed: This line up of Liverpool ladies looked splendid in chic outfits

Perfect pins: Legs were meticulously bronzed

Well-heeled: Ladies show off their shoes

Nice pins! Slender legs standing at the bar

Hats off to her! Aimee Fardell from Leicestershire (centre) is holding her hen party at Ladies day today

Chic: A retro look for these racegoers

Dressed to the nines! It's bells and whistles for this racegoer, in scarlet shawl and feather-trimmed hat, while right, these two opt for subtle black and white

Elegant: Palazzo pants and a neutral silk shell top were set off with a wide-brimmed hat

Heely nice! Girls elongated their legs with the age-old fashion trick of using concealed platforms and a nude-toned shoe

Dressed to impress: Pretty silk dresses were accessorised with neat clutches and statement hats

Back in time: Bold prints in 70s tones made an appearance on these ladies' maxi dresses

Ruffled maxi dress in ditzy florals

    Hair to match her dress

    Bright tropical tones

Like a flock of colourful birds: Women wore bright feathered creations on their heads

Bright: Pinks and reds made a splash

Pretty in pink: Plenty of rosy hues were the order of the day

Prints charming! Bold and beautiful florals were a strong trend at the course today

This is not just a picnic... This is an M&S picnic

Taking a rest! One girl takes the weight off her heels by perching on a dustbin

This lady wins for her fantastic hairstyle imo.

And these girls clearly didn't get the message that you have to look hideous.

Brightening up: The clouds parted for a while, allowing the visitors to enjoy a moment of sunshine

Flower power: Bold blooms on black made a statement

On trend: Tropical prints were a popular choice, while summery ruffles and cobalt blue were strong looks

Tropical brights: Coral pink and juicy lime tones brought a beach vibe to Aintree

Red and white: Bold florals for this cheerful pair

Well groomed: Racegoers dress as glam as they can for the occasion

Neutral gear: Racegoers in monochrome or metallic hues provided contrast to all the brights

Here come the girls (girls, girls-girls) Coleen arrives at Aintree Rex

Bold colours ... blues and pinks were popular choices

The one thing no style queen was without though was a towering pair of heels.
Peeptoes and wedges were everywhere - and one poor lass fell at the first hurdle as she tried to walk down a grassy bank. Ouch.

Golden girl ... Aintree was awash with metallic shades

Early faller ... race fan gets the thin end of the edge on a steep bank

As ever, sales of fake tan must have soared if the display of orange skin was anything to go by.

Tan-talising ... pale skin is a rare sight in the Aintree crowds

In fact, the only thing pale and interesting in evidence was the high number of nude dresses.
Creams and peaches proved the perfect colour foil for a tanned pair of legs.

Girls' day out ... lasses make the most of the sunshine

And while most lasses chose to go bare-headed, there were some gorgeous hats and fascinators to gawk at.

Good nudes ... two girls work the pale colour palette to perfection

The odds were 3-1 that these triplets would triumph in the fashion stakes - we love their headgear and neatly tailored outfits.

Frock on! More cobalt blue, along with summery prom dresses and a plunging striped number

Vibrant: Animal prints made a statement, as did plenty of florals and bright contrasting colours

Chilled out! Bare legs and arms were out on show, despite the gloomy weather

Prints charming: Graphic patterns were worn in myriad tones

Northern brights: Women chose vibrant colours and eye-catching styles
Tantastic: Girls made sure their limbs were well bronzed ahead of the event

Tutu-good: Light, summery styles were the order of the day

The long and the short of it: Mini dresses showed off tanned legs and skyscraper heels

Menswear: BB, star of E4 model show Dirty Sexy Things, thinks a knitted onesie is suitable attire for the races, while Liverpool's Mayoral candidate and hairstylist Herbert Howe dresses in his own flamboyant way

In their finest: The first day of racing kicked off in style

Hats off! A well-chosen piece of headgear is a must for Aintree

I don't think so. No drag queen would be caught dead with that bag.

Makes me proud to be British

You just know that by 7pm they'll all be round the back, nylon knickers round their cankles, getting shagged over a wheelie bin...now that's klass!
