Default Has anyone else seen "Tree Man"? (SFW, but traumatizing)

Supposedly, he got this condition from HPV, coupled with an extremely rare immune system deficiency. Full story in the link below:

So, those are warts on his face, arms, hands and feet?

His hands really do look like they have roots growing out of them.

I saw this on the Discovery Channel or something. He travels with this group of other people in his area (coincidence or living conditions?) with freakish disfigurements. An American (or european, I forget) doctor went to his country to try to offer some medical help, but after a few treatments this man decided he didn't want to have the surgery to completely remove the growths from his feet and hands. Not sure why. I was pissed because I watched the whole hour show and wanted to see a happy ending.

I saw the show they did on him on TLC a couple of months ago; I believe they said it was a fungus. A specialist from the US went to his village and biopsied a couple of the growths and I think started him on a treatment program. He was working as , well, a freak in a freak show, for lack of a better term, along with other people who had some wierd medical condtions. I found it odd that there were so many people in one area with bizarre conditions.

Seems like he finally did get help as the article attached is this:

Dede's first wife left him and he lost his job because of his bizarre affliction.

At one point to feed his two children he joined a freak show with other victims of peculiar diseases.

But now, following a series of operations to cut away the tree-like growths, he can see the outline of his toes for the first time.

He has also become a sudoko addict now he can hold a pen.

He said he hopes that he will resume a normal life after two more operations to graft undamaged skin onto his hands, feet and face.
Since Dede cut his knee as a teenager, strange roots have been growing out of him.

A small wart developed on his lower leg and spread uncontrollably.
But last year US dermatology expert Dr Anthony Gaspari took up his case.

He concluded Dede's odd affliction was caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a fairly common infection usually causing only small warts.

But in Dede's case he had an extremely rare immune system deficiency, leaving his body unable to contain the warts.

I watched the show that documented his condition, and at the end of it they had offered to give him medication, but he never took up their offer. It seemed he was making just enough money with the circus.

I do wonder whether he eventually did...
