    Default Life before death portraits

This sombre series of portraits taken of people before and after they had died is a challenging and poignant study. The work by German photographer Walter Schels and his partner Beate Lakotta, who recorded interviews with the subjects in their final days, reveals much about dying - and living. Life Before Death is at the Wellcome Collection from April 9-May 18

I thought it was very interesting. Thought provoking.

I found it very moving. I would never have thought of this.It makes you think. I was so sorry for that one poor woman who never felt wanted, her whole life.

I felt really bad for the woman who worked all her life and was finally able to retire.

The one woman kept her children from her ex-husband for seventeen years, then called him when she was diagnosed, was incredibly touching. Some people really have the power of forgiveness. I'm glad she could reconcile that wrong before she died.

It sure made me think how short life is. Would I live the same way if I was diagnosed with a terminal disease?

They all look like they're just sleeping, really. But, wow, they're words....though I had to chuckle at the last lady who said "I just bought a new fridge, if I had only known!".

Should I look at this if I am already PMSy?

...and also her ex-husband came straight when she called him. That was nice.

I also like the fact that the pictures are close ups (you can see the pores) that, to me, could be a little uncomfortable in person and in photos. The photographer proved his point.

    Super, super idea.

No, especially if you're a crier. I know when I have PMS I'm super sensitive and take things a lot harder.

Death is part of life and these pics are not scary at all. Quite reassuring in many ways.

With that first photo I thought it was a split-screen thing, where on the left side the woman was alive and the second side she is dead. I mean the wonk eye...
Her death photo made me sad though. She looked just like a little girl asleep.
