This recipe sounds pretty similar to how my mum used to make it, although I don't remember her doing the salt part (but I could be wrong).
that would be me too but this sounds really good to me.

Lol yeah - I grew up with my mum making her own pickled onions and mint sauce (OMFG - sooooo much better than the grass clippings in vinegar you buy in shops) and all that kind of stuff, and I keep thinking I'll try and do it myself but...

I checked with her earlier today, btw, and she did salt the red cabbage before rinsing and pickling it. It goes soggy and disgusting when you pickle it otherwise. If any of you try making it yourself try it alongside a thick, meaty stew. Works well with that, too.

This is surprising to me, only because I know quite a few vegetarians who gave up the vegetarian lifestyle, and almost every single one of them said that wanting bacon played a significant role in their decision to eat some meat again.

    Candy bacon:

Cook bacon in frying pan. Add real maple syrup. Let reduce. Sweet and salty all at the same time.

Can also be used as an industrial adhesive.

And Grim...that bacon sounds like absolute heaven!!! I just saw some maple bacon cupcake thing, and I'm not kidding, I literally drooled.
