Wow that's an old thread to have been bumped.

I've never understood why you can't bump threads? I'm too scared to add a comment to an old thread just in case!

If someone posts a legit comment after an inactive period on a thread and others join in a discussion, is that a problem?

If so, why aren't the threads locked down after a certain interval with no comments?

    I don't understand!

Generally it's just bad form to resurrect long dead threads, but I'm pretty sure it's more geared towards threads with long-dead arguments that shouldn't be resurrected.

No. The problem is when someone doesn't post a legit comment, but rather just inserts a smiley face or "I agree", or similar.

That said, I actually don't mind necroed threads myself at all, unless they're News or Gossip threads (because then we're talking about Old News and Old Gossip and one likes that!). I think if someone bumps an old "human interest" type of piece, or a food, fashion or humour thread (anything along those lines), then it gives a chance for newer members to see it, and for anyone who skipped over it the first time around to have a look. But, I know not everyone agrees with me there, and it's not just mods - the rule was brought about because a lot of members wanted it, if I recall.

I don't think anyone will be getting infractions if they add something to the thread though, or for that matter if they just say "hey, I thought this was funny/cool/interesting and some of you newer folks might like it, so I'm bumping it!" It certainly wouldn't bother me!
