Default TRUTH IN ADVERTISING: Malaysian DVD has LOUSY quote on the cover

    from boing boing

Unfortunate blurb choice on bootleg DVD cover

IDEO's Andy Switky brought my colleague Lyn "Virtual China" Jeffery
this excellent bootleg package of "V for Vendetta" he picked up in China.
Check out the blurb on the front cover:

"V for Vendetta is a poorly paced and spectacularly disjointed rehash of Orwellian themes."

Related posts about bad DVD subtitle translations (no, not poorly chosen blurbs like the one above) here and here.

UPDATE: Chris Null reminds me of an excellent negative blurb he found on a Malaysian DVD bootleg of "SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2!"

I go buy DVDs in Chinatown sometimes and I come across quite a bit like that. One I remember was a Jet Li movie... The English title is called "Unleashed" I think, the bootleg version said "Danny the Dog" Most of the time, the cover is just badly translate but I'm so used to watching Asian films with subtitles that I understand bad English

If you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing. Just wait until we're goin down in flames.

Yeah, "Unleashed" has the title Danny the Dog in Norway too! And the movie "Miss Congeniality" has the title Miss Undercover!

What is the point with translating an english title to another english title???

^yeah, it's miss undercover in germany too. but i think a lot of germans would have problems pronouncing congeniality, wouldn't know what to think and wozuld forget the title.
but it happens quite a bit that they translate english titles in another english title.

^^ Actually Miss Undercover sounds plausible.
