Injured cheerleader continues routine on stretcher

Mar. 6, 2006 08:20 AM ST. LOUIS - A cheerleader for Southern Illinois University fell on her head during a routine performed Sunday at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship game between Southern Illinois and Bradley.

She continued to cheer, moving her arms, after she was placed on a stretcher.
The Salukis cheerleaders took the court during a timeout with 3:25 to play. Kristi Yamaoka, 18, from Springfield, Ill., fell and landed on her head with a loud thud heard throughout the Savvis Center. The incident quieted a previously noisy crowd of 13,969.

She was placed in a back and neck brace before being put on a stretcher. Yamaoka waved to the crowd and continued to perform a cheer routine with her arms. The crowd applauded her as she was taken off the floor.

She was taken to St. Louis University Hospital. Her condition was not immediately released.

Yeah, I have a sick sense of humour.

How stupid is that! Like cheerleading is that important. I saw this on the news and the idiot was waving her arms around with a brave smile on her face. Stupid.

^^ How dare you!!!! don't you realise how much time and effort go into these things?? I mean, remembering all those hard words that have to be spelled out whilst waving round pom poms and jumping, oh and the pyramids OOOH the pyramids!

Sorry to offend anyone on the offchance someone goes there, BUT that isn't exactly considered a real college anyway. You go there if you like to party, not to actually get an education (which was verified by my aunt, an SIU grad

2. I bet there's a Cheerleader Mom (first cousin to Pageant Mom) in the crowd yelling "Keep going Becky Sue, smile honey, SMILE DAMMIT, remember the routine"

You just know there is and she's shouting over the crowd directions on smiling and staying perky while the EMS folks strap her onto the backboard. I'm betting she brings a diagram of what the girl did wrong to the hospital and starts drilling her on it while being treated. "You didn't have firm footin' Shift your left foot over on top of Tina Maybelles ponytail a coupla inches.. evvin you'da done that you wouldnat fallen. " It would really be ironic/moronic if she ends up making her injuries worse by continuing her routine on the stretcher.

Good grief what a 'tard!

Although, it may have been one of those things where she was going to freak out and this calmed her down. I suppose if cheerleading is your life at that point...
