Rick Nelson and The Stone Canyon Band
live at The Palomino, North Hollywood - 1972
From the collection of Stephen A. Love
This photo is probably from one of the shows over
Friday March 17 - Saturday, March 18, 1972 when Rick Nelson & The Stone Canyon Band headlined at the Palomino club in North Hollywood.
Tom Brumley – “Rick wouldn’t play the Palomino for a long time, but when he did he made a lot more money there than he ever made at the Troub. The Troub acted as though it was a privilege just to play there, but you couldn’t eat that, or pay your bills. At the Palomino Rick got the door, two shows a night sold out. He went over well at the Troubadour too, but it didn’t hold more than a couple hundred people. Everybody at the Palomino knew him and had heard his records. They came to enjoy Rock, where the Troubadour crowd came to critique you.
Is that what "Garden Party" is about?

I love this photo of him.
Yeah, just looking it up on Wiki. There was evidently some kind of kerfluffle in the back of the audience that started the booing, so it might not have even been directed at Nelson. But, he left.

All I remember from the song is:
"But it's all right now. I learned my lesson well.
You can't please everybody, so you gotta please yourself."
Those lyrics do seem pretty telling.
