His age was fine in Ghost, but it was in Dirty Dancing that he was too old for the part. I don't know his actual age in that movie, but he looked about 30.

Just the idea that one's dearly departed are still around you
was such a comforting idea and worked out so sweetly in that movie.
I especially liked this exchange:
Sam: Molly, you're in danger.
Oda Mae Brown: You can't just blurt it out like that! And quit moving around, because you're starting to make me dizzy. I'll just tell her in my own way.
[pause; then, to Molly]
