Well, lots of celebutards have gone to jail for tax evasion. That's about the only thing they don't get away with. There's an excellent chance he'll do time. Even Al Capone couldn't fuck with the IRS.

this is very true. you don't want to mess with the IRS that is for sure. I am glad he got what he did. Celebrities sometimes think that they don't need to follow the same rules as the rest of the human race.

Frankly, I'm shocked that he got the maximum sentence, considering that most celebs can practically commit murder without having to go to prison. Uncle Sam only cares when you don't pay him his due. And maybe the judge was annoyed at all the celebrity letters he received on Snipes' behalf, like that meant he should get off the hook. Sorry, but I'd be annoyed too, if Woody Harrelson wrote me an annoying letter.

Ha ha, you were definitely right. Three years, thank goodness a celebrity actually got time for the first time in the history of mankind. But wonder where and how much of that time he'll spend, I'm figuring maybe 6 months at most for good behavior, time already spent, or whatever the hell they come up with nowadays to shorten time. The true test is not necessarily sentencing but the actual time spent, and where. I'm thinking club fed.

He's definitely going to a Club Fed. Prison term aside, imagine how much this is going to cost him financially. He's got the $5,000,000 fine, plus back taxes of $15,000,000+ along with nasty penalties and interest. I don't know his financial situation of course, but I doubt he's going to walk out of prison a rich man. Until we get much needed tax reform (flat tax please!), don't mess with the IRS.

I must be being dumb - if he was acquitted why is he going to jail???

(please explain using small words as I seem to have a problem understanding the smallest thing at the moment...)

Because he flat assed refused to pay taxes for 3 years. He declared the government had no right to collect taxes. Turns out they did.

He was acquitted of fraud which is probably like under reporting of claiming things you don't have.

He didn't file at all and that's why he's going to prison.

There are a lot of people who think taxes are illegal. I saw a doc on it once. It was interesting because one of the men was on welfare.

It's funny that his attorney calls him "a man of integrity". Where IS this integrity, exactly? He refuses to pay his taxes and has his dopey pals write support letters on his behalf - WHERE is the integrity?
