Aww. I really liked him. He was on The Tonight Show the first time I ever stayed up and watched it. I remember Johnny asking David who he thought was the bravest person to have ever lived, and he said the first person to drink milk. At the time, I just thought that was hysterical.

Yeah, really sad. I loved his humor. He was different for his day.
Oh, I offended you with my opinion? You should hear the ones I keep to myself.

My first concert was Sonny and Cher (duh) with David Brenner opening for them. I begged my mother to get tickets and I'd pay for them and everything. They were 7 dollars.

David had a couple of jokes that were so visual I always remembered them. He loved practical jokes - when he was in Philadelphia he'd get on a bus carrying 10 brooms, made a big ruckus and then get off at the next stop. The other one was how Jewish mothers want their son's to be doctors and lawyers, not do manual labor. His mother would go over to him when he had a hammer in hand and say "bad hammer! Book! Book good"!

This must be an old obit that wasn't updated: A portion of the article:

He was engaged for years starting in 2005 to Tai Babilonia, a former pairs figure skater who competed in two Winter Olympics, but they never married.

His marriage to Elizabeth Slater in 2000 was sealed on a stage in Las Vegas during his live HBO comedy special, David Brenner: Back With a Vengeance! That union lasted nary a year.

In addition to his sons, Brenner is survived by his wife Ruth and his grandson Wesley.

I'm really smiling reading everyone's recollection of their favorite bit or joke.

    Bet he would like that.

    Me too.
