After Katie ambushed him with the divorce, can you imagine the pre-nup, non-disclosure, bodyguard/minder shit the new one will have to put up with? She won't even be able to pee in private.

I wonder when he's gonna decide it's less embarrassing and bad for his career to just be gay/bi than continue with this weirdo cult.

I'd really rather see Travolta cross over. I feel he was close until Kelly and the cult did a record-breaking turkey baster defrost-and-bake.

I think, Travolta might be in the closet for career reasons, but Tommyboy is using Scientology suppress his homosexuality, because he genuinely believes it is wrong to be gay.

Too much Catholic guilt. I think poor naive Tommy actually thought he was gonna get away from it in the seminary. He might as well have walked into a bath house.

I think he's very insulated from the real world by the cult. They do nothing but fawn and kiss his arse and tell him how wonderful he is and shield him from all that negative stuff that could harm his Supah OT Powerz, all while the real world is busy pissing its sides at his latest outbreak of Short Man Syndrome.

Well, I've jumped on board with an engagement gift, which was a tad awkward since I know nothing about Stepford Cruise IV, and what she might like. So I ended up just getting something I could safely predict that Tom at least would find useful.

    The Love Trampoline 2014 Edition

The Love Trampoline is for them to share, but...... it also has a special little gift for each of them: inside the royal purple pillows, (embroidered with their initials, needless to say with spun gold), is what at first glance appears to be a large, signed, leather-bound first edition of Dianetics. Isn't that great?

Hah! Of course it isn't great - its revolting! Except.... its actually a hollowed out, steel-encased, treasure chest capable of concealing millions of dollars, or hundreds of files, porn, whatever. And tucked inside each was a small token of my speechless wonder at their unique and no doubt timeless (5 years?) love.

    Filling Tom's secret compartment was a no-brainer:

(So easy - the little fellow just popped right in.)

The young lady was a bit more difficult, but in the end I just had to go with my gut. I did write a short, and hopefully gracious note suggesting that she watch the tape at least three or four times a day, before the golden nuptials, though God knows even hourly would not be excessive - I mean, she wouldn't even get a curtsey or a crown. (Hmmm, Tom might have a tiara or two laying around.)

OK, I'm going to risk the opprobrium of GR by saying (swallows hard) I'd rather like to meet him.

To be clear, I'm not a fan and I've never fancied him, and the cult influence is profoundly disconcerting, not to mention sinister. But there was a period when he was interesting and also a highly commendable actor, particularly after he did Rain Man, and definitely when he did Magnolia (brilliant casting and it would surely do wonders for his career if he played more thoughtful baddies). It all went wrong when his marriage to Nicole Kidman ended, he changed PR, got involved with Katie and exposed his bonkers side. It was like seeing behind the Wizard of Oz's curtain.

But I can't help feeling that there's no way he could come through the shock and humiliation of Katie's departure, and all the negative stories, completely unchanged. I realise he has much better PR these days, so he could still be utterly barking, but there's always hope that he may be one (tiny) step closer to being a more reasonable human being. I mean, some wisdom must come with age, even to Tom Cruise, right? But also there's that immense self-discipline (however misguided, it's pretty extraordinary) and his acting ability (which is real, and surely due another stand-out role if his ego doesn't get in his way), and I'm also curious about that professional 'charm'. So I'd rather like to meet him to see if I get a glimpse behind that re-closed curtain. It would be so interesting to see how he ticks - and not just to assess hisScibot commitment. I don't have the same curiosity about John Travolta, for instance, probably because he seems more 'wysiwyg'.

Anyway, just saying. *retires to corner to await GR-bashing*

There are stories of Tom being rabidly homophobic all the way back from his Risky Business days, so I have no desire to meet him. It doesn't matter to me that he was well cast in a few films, we'd probably end in a screaming match.

I think he's a shitty actor. He may have been good in Rain Man but I haven't seen it and every other role I've seen him play is some version of himself ie not much real acting involved. IMHO of course. I'd like to meet him though, just so I can rest a drink on his head and really piss him off. A Tiny tantrum would be so cute.

eta I promise I didn't read kitty's post first! Great minds think alike.

He was 'ok' in Rain Man (which I only gritted my teeth through because the Bloke insisted on watching it) but that was something like 25 years ago and Dustin Hoffman could probably have encouraged a decent performance out of anyone in that role. The only thing Tommygirl does well in are roles that require overly intense and creepy and as Faithanne said, that's just him playing himself.

We can hold hands Pen Name. I really dislike him and have less than no time for that Sci-Fi religion. I do think it would be interesting to spend some time with him and to hear first hand from the Ass's mouth about his life and his career. I have always gotten the feeling that he doesn't have any close friends. Its always family or he's alone unless it's a staged photo op ala the Beckham's. He came up in the acting world with a large group of men and women whom all had flashy breakthroughs. Some are still thriving, some are barely surviving but he has ,maintained an incredibly consistently successful career for a long time. I would love to hear him comment on what he felt he did right and Matt Dillon or Timothy Hutton or Demi Moore or Elizabeth Shue did wrong. I am sure from his lofty position he has some interesting views on his contemporaries.
Otherwise yeah I loathe him and aren't his kids 22 years old now?

Publicly he'd twat waffle about having incredible opportunities, a good work ethic, blah, blah, blah, but I'm betting that if you were to raise the subject privately he'd have you into a $cientology centre and undergoing auditing before you had the chance to say "nice lifts, Tom."
