i don't know much about this type of employment, but isn't it by contract? so if the dancers had a contract that was short term, not seeing the big deal here. they have a right to work for whom they want, how long they want, and for how much $$$ they want.

Having dancing-in-the-industry experience myself, I know there is a select pack of "high-demand" dancers out there.

They're hired not only based on experience (dancing with past acts), but they have to be familiar with "road-life", also know to pick up routines quickly, adapt to changes quickly, not prone to injuries (trained/dance correctly to avoid injuries), have a known reputation that they work well with the main act (i.e. stay out of their way), get along with others on the tour, and most importantly - doesn't talk/sells stories.

If you notice, people like Justin, Janet, Christina, Britney (when she was touring arenas)... they will have at least 2 or 3 of the same "high-demand pack" dancers on their tour(s).

99% of the time it's not the dancers themselves making the decisions who they what to go with, as they have agents/management to deal with too, and moreso it's their agency making the decision on where they go based on the better deal ($), and their contracted schedule(s). Timing of the tours is a big factor.

It's not just like the dancer can say "Oh, nevermind, I want to go to Katy's tour now"- there are contracts involved, as well as time, money, fittings, and a lot of energy spent. But hey, if the dancer is available... why not? But people (main acts) can't just "steal" dancers. There's definitely a process and a contract trail that goes along with booking dancers.

Unless Katy paid the dancers she wanted to just sit around and wait for her tour (which I highly doubt), I don't see why Taylor thought that Katy was "sabotaging" her tour with hiring a couple dancer's Taylor had on a past tour.

I'd also like to point out there is a HUGE difference between hiring a dancer for a video shoot and a couple appearances in which they have a day or two to prepare for learning 1 routine, and hiring a dancer for a tour - doing 1-2 hour show per night, with outfit changes, for a couple of months. So that definitely narrows the dancer availability/selection down.

I did a very small promo tour for an male artist just coming "into the scene" a long time ago, he was a teen then, and I did a couple mall and small ball room type venues - appearances up and down the west coast, and, as much as I love to dance (and still do), touring, however big of a tour, is physically and mentally exhausting. And it just wasn't for me. (I was also in school at the time and felt that was more important).
I did a couple televised gigs once in a while over the years, but never actively pursed a dance "career".

So yeah... there's my take on the "stealing dancers" thing.
